Wow - Someone in academia actually honest about transgender people

This is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone in academia go against the party line of “trans women are women”. Someone sent this to me and this is pretty awesome.

Dr Dutton - an anthropologist- already has tenure so that’s why he’s brave enough to tell the truth. Its pretty refreshing to see someone in academia acknowledge the dangers women face with this ideology.

Hmmmh, a eugenicist, with some pretty dodgy views. Wouldn't hold him up as a paragon.

Well, the problem there of course RoyalCorgi is that 3 out of 4 of those names are women, and people seem to only care when men (allies or not) talk.

That's a hell of an unfortunate acronym that Minorities And Philosophy are using.

Isn't it just! (MAP) I had to read it several times. What were they thinking to adopt that as it's (inadvertently?) creepy and quite disturbing.

arran I'm stuck on the first two sentences. Could they not have come up with a different acronym than MAP? And MAP UK? Have I spent too much time here to be seeing the Twitter use of Map?

That response made my brain hurt. "Embodied and continually endangered" FFS.....
Actually a deeply philosophical point, should we concede to anyone the right, supposedly, to define themselves however they want irrespective of what anyone else says and in many cases on a purely subjective basis? If we say yes to that, then we have dismantled at a stroke the agreed social meaning of words. Or instead handed the control of who gets to name what to someone else. And who has that power? Who is it who keeps spouting 'no debate'? If a group cannot name themselves as a group they wish to define distinct from other groups, then you have silenced them before they have begun to speak. And I mean there name themselves as distinct from others. Lesbians could not speak about themselves until they had a name, be that lesbian, sapphists, dykes or whatever. It doesn't mean steal the name of another group. The sheer utter bloody nonsense spouted by those who want to seem intellectual makes me weep.

My god, it's basically saying, don't think about mean things, you nasty philosophers. You must work to support the orthodox ideas!

Let's take fascism. It is a set of political ideas that exist and have existed, that have a history, that had consequences. I don't think we get rid of fascism by throwing non-debate around, or demeaning the meaning by calling every idiot a fascist. The facts about fascism, the lesson from history. We cannot clearly oppose that which we cannot name. And we cannot talk about ourselves and our lives and what we need and want unless we can say this is us and you are not included. And when someone wants to take that away from me, that is not a good thing. It is a very threatening thing and you bloody better take a damn good look at who is trying to do it.
