Poor kid with velcro trainers is given detention for bigoted behaviour.

Well, in fairness, there is still a sizeable section of sport with a homophobic streak. There are still plenty of closeted homosexual people in sports, and it still takes courage for a footballer to come out.

What angers me so much about Stonewall's direction is that I want to support ongoing work to break through those pockets of prejudice, but I am unable to do so because the biggest lobbying organization is so utterly dismissive of women in general and lesbians especially.

Maybe we just need to work at the root of the problem - mans general shittiness to man.

I think social media and current politics/politicians has amplified the boldness of the keyboard loons which has spilled more into real life.

Not that there wasn’t crackpots who would physically harm someone else for their own twisted logic but now being a complete bastard seems to be a national pastime.

Carowiththegoodhair · 02/06/2019 08:55

Sport should be free of political messaging.

Zampa · 02/06/2019 09:05

I'm very much against TW competing against women in any sport. But I do think it's churlish to criticise the rainbow laces campaign.

For example, there are still issues with homophobia in the men's game and tackling this at junior level may help make a difference.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/06/2019 09:08

It’s not the laces it’s Stonewall that people have an issue with.

nettie434 · 02/06/2019 09:08

Premiership football clubs all take part in the rainbow laces campaign yet not one premiership football player is actually 'out'. I think it is all show and I would love to know if there is any evidence that wearing rainbow laces leads to better attitudes.

OnlineAlienator · 02/06/2019 09:11

I think this proves it's high time the LGB (sexuality) was separated from the TQetc (gender indentity?).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/06/2019 09:18

Or the T should have its own group.

Awning10 · 02/06/2019 10:31

From the rainbow laces website:

"The Stonewall Strategy for Sport will be driving the creation of new, in depth resources that will provide greater detail on LGBT engagement in sport. There will be a particular focus in the coming year on trans participation in sport and ensuring that the sector is equipped to positively engage the LGBT community."

100% agree with this. There does seem to be a hell of a lot of homophobia in sports. However, lumping in those who are homophobic, and those who think its unfair for males to compete with women together..is wrong. They are nothing alike. And its basically making out that if you agree homophobia in sport should be stamped out then..you also must believe that its wrong for there to be female only sports. Which is the usual stonewall tack.

Also a huge shock! Would never have guessed that. Fuck homophobia. People thinking sex matters on sport are the ones to go after!

Sorry to but in but whenever I use amazon I get a message asking me to contribute to Stonewall. Pisses me right off.
