Yay! Empower the girls. Space to rock out, create etc... a positive space away from the cock-posturing, male dominated, often misogynistic industry. Sigh. Except it isn’t. Young men can ‘identify’ their way into this space too. I only hope that if I was the mother of a child who identified as a trans girl I would have the decency to at least try to steer them away from joining such a space and have a quiet word and say ‘lets leave the girls to have this space. If you want to be a performer in a band, make your own way. Let the girls have this one.’
I’ve no idea if there have been any trans or male born non-binaries in this scheme or whether there will be but FFS this just makes me want to weep. I know it’s not about safety - it’s not a refuge or a prison but it’s, yet again, denying young women a breathing space, a ‘room of their own’. So depressing. And I’m too scared to comment on the FB post that’s popped up on my timeline because I’m a coward and don’t want to be called a bigot by the other cool mums who obviously don’t have a problem with it.
