I'm hit by the 2 child rule. I taught 'RE in schools before my eldest was born with disabilities. I can't work as I take him to school, to therapies, to drs. It costs a lot to raise him. My daughter was born a mere six weeks after the April date. I get £13 a week to raise her : ( I used to be on 500 a week...

Abbazed · 24/05/2019 20:17

She has a broken cot, few clothes, 1 pair of shoes, 1 second hand coat and needs desperately a new pram.

littlemissmuffins · 24/05/2019 20:20

If this had been featured as a storyline in a dystopian drama (similar to Years and Years) in the late 80s or early 90s ppl would not have taken it seriously.

oh wait...............it has.

The first episode features a disability assessment This drama was made in the 1970s.

scarce housing is in there too!

It's ok. I could understand if it was half tc so 30. But zero...£13 doesn't buy much.

Abbazed · 24/05/2019 22:28

The cots broken as her 3 yo brother is a huge Tigger fan and she adores him so he bounces she giggles so he bounces more...loud crack... He needs a toddler bed and I can't afford it lol its £35. Then the mattress.

Abbazed · 24/05/2019 22:29

Never cons prostitution...they'd pay me to keep my clothes on...

traceyracer · 24/05/2019 23:28

IMO this is what happens when you vote the Tories into power. They only care about the 1% (top bankers, lawyers etc) and everyone else is meant to just fend for themselves.

Re the issue of women selling sex because they need the money, rather than focus on the prostitution itself the focus should be on the root of the problem ie poverty. If poverty were addressed then that would stop women going into prostitution in the first place because they needed money.

If you think the Government cares about poverty then have a look at this link:

HelenaDove · 25/05/2019 00:19

Meanwhile on another thread we have got women laughing and taking the piss that other women cant afford a leg wax

There is a big denial and minimization of womens economic reality going on.

Abbazed · 25/05/2019 14:20

The cot bed broke this morning :'(

Abbazed · 25/05/2019 14:20

If you can't afford a leg was shave...

HelenaDove · 25/05/2019 14:39

Abbazed your last post does make me wonder about your previous ones.

Strange that you should miss the point when you are going through it yourself.

OP posts:
Abbazed · 26/05/2019 19:21

What?

Abbazed · 26/05/2019 19:21

I haven't considered prostitution

HelenaDove · 27/05/2019 01:27

You seemed to miss the point i was making about womens economic reality. i wasnt suggesting a career change into escort work.

I just thought it strange that you totally missed the point when you claim to be going through these issues yourself.

@helenadove how is this news?! It's been going on since the dawn of time. Let's not campaign to take people's livelihoods away eh? No matter how much you feel it isn't socially acceptable

rosesandcashmere · 27/05/2019 01:40

Also a leg wax is a luxury.
A leg shave is not.

HelenaDove · 27/05/2019 16:02

JESUS FUCKING WEPT I WASNT CAMPAIGNING TO DO THAT CHECK MY POSTING HISTORY. I WAS A SEX CHATLINE WORKER FFS . IN THE EARLY 2000S MY CHOICE WAS THAT OR WORKFARE.

I POSTED A NEW THREAD BECAUSE I COULDNT FIND THE OLD ONES ON UC THAT ON THIS BOARD.

ENDING THE POVERTY IS WHAT IS NEEDED.

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 27/05/2019 16:05

IM FUCKIING AWARE THAT A LEG WAX IS A LUXURY. i DO FIND IT STRANGE THOUGH THAT SOMEONE GOING THROUGH POVERTY MISSED THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE ABOUT THE EXPECTATIONS PLACED ON WOMEN VERSUS THE ECONOMIC REALITY AND THE DENIAL OF IT

HelenaDove · 27/05/2019 16:10

I know two prostitutes, one of them is constantly in my thoughts as she's basically the poster girl for these type of sanctions. A smack addict, pushed into prostitution by her dealer/pimp boyfriend, kids taken away, mentally ill with learning disabilities. About 2 years ago she at least had a flat, was contactable and was doing slightly safer work online. She suddenly found herself being evicted, and no landlord would give her the time of day because she relied on Universal credit. Cue a downward spiral of street walking, physical assult and rape. We haven't heard from her in a while, her dad frequently tries to find her, though he has to contend with people assuming he's a John which makes it even more difficult.

She was a very fragile woman teetering on the edge and universal credit fucked her over it. I will never forgive this government for this, though I'm not so naive to believe that this shit hasn't been happening forever.

magicBrenda · 27/05/2019 16:45

I know a sex worker. Was one of my best friends in my teens. She joined an escort agency whilst she was living at with her parents in her very comfortable home. She encouraged me to do it although I passed that invitation up. It was just wanting money and not wanting to go down the 9-5 route.

She know owns a escort agency. Her long time partner helps her run it but I don’t know if she actually did it. She’s quite well off.

HelenaDove · 27/05/2019 16:51

Bebstar it sounds to me like she was getting closer to getting completely away from it................until UC Sad

Helena,

She was definitely on a better path. She had frequent contact with her relatives and occasional, supervised contact with one of her children. She also had a social worker and access to rehab services. She's ADHD so keeping her on that path was never going to be easy, but the disruption and her going off radar due to her eviction and subsequent housing issues was just terrible.

*Since making my initial post, I texted her mum for updates. Apparently she turned up in hospital last week, but unfortunately walked out before any care plan could be put in place.
