The Independent chose to report like this;

I feel as if the dog is treated with more empathy than the child.

She buried her baby alive, If this was the UK she would still be charged, and rightly so.
A psychiatrist would then assess her mental state.

I'm not disputing that. I don't feel the way it was reported, with the heroic dog at the centre of the story, was appropriate.

Well the alternative would be a "Teenage girl buries baby alive" kind of headline so I don't think they've made that bad a choice.

She buried her baby alive. If she had abandoned it outside a church or temple this probably wouldn’t even have been reported. This girl, whether sane or not, attempted murder and so the only hero was the dog that found the baby.

It looks as if they are doing the right things - the mother has to be charged as you can't allow people to attempt to kill babies, she is having input from psychological services. What other way could it be handled?

What’s the falsified having three legs got to do with it? Why does that detail lead the headline?

AlwaysComingHome · 22/05/2019 14:43

How autocorrect changed ‘dog’ to ‘falsified’ is an utter mystery to me.

I think maybe just because in Thailand dogs in general - and disabled dogs - don’t have a life like they tend to have in U.K. etc. Indeed they often are sold and traded as part of the Asian meat trade, others live a pretty rough life on the streets.

I think the point was the owner kept his disabled dog (alive) and that it went on to do something purposeful is part of the story, as this is a dog that most would have deemed “of no use” and killed or sold off to a worse outcome (ie for meat).
