Spoiled ballots?

Binglebong · 20/05/2019 14:18

As far as I can see there is no point to the election on Thursday - the MEPs will have nothing to do wish I'd stood. So I am seriously considering using it as an opportunity to spoil my ballot with Woman - Adult Human Female.

Any thoughts?

None of us here need to be told about the struggle for the vote; but manipulating people into voting one way or another - and against their feelings or instinct, is certainly not in the spirit of democracy

Exactly! I’ll be spoiling, as is my right.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 07:30

please vote against brexit party/ukip

not voting/spoiling is how these groups continue to rise.

Puggled · 23/05/2019 07:35

I had been considering spoiling the ballot paper but have decided that I should make a clear anti-Brexit vote. Large numbers of spoilt ballots could be claimed as protest votes by either side.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 23/05/2019 08:39

I am not voting green - I will not support a party that denies my existence as a women. But we have some independents. I am sure other areas have them too?

borntobequiet · 23/05/2019 08:48

These EU elections are the nearest thing we may get to another national poll on Brexit. It's essentially a single issue election. Vote on this, don't spoil your ballot.

borntobequiet · 23/05/2019 08:49

If you're for Remain, and really can't vote Green or LD, vote Change UK.

LizzieSiddal · 23/05/2019 09:00

I too am voting anti Brexit.

I’m taking a deep breath and voting Lib Dem’s. They have been campaigning on one issue- stop Brexit, so I feel I can justify voting for them.

Angryresister · 23/05/2019 09:10

So in the end my proxy will be voting LD for me. I really wanted to spoil vote in a GC kind of way. Just content myself with writing back in great detail to all the emails I seem to be getting from them...no idea whether anyone actually reads them.

stillathing · 23/05/2019 09:15

I'm thinking making a statement about brexit and the environment with my vote. Then afterwards I will write to the party I voted for and explain why I voted for them and why I probably won't vote for them again (because they back the unscientific sophistry of gender ideology whilst ignoring the lived reality of 52% of humans).

DoodleLab · 23/05/2019 09:26

Does anyone know anything about the Climate and Ecological Emergency Independents standing in some regions? I just found out their existence this morning. I cannot vote for the Greens in this election due to their gender identity policies (although I did vote for them in the recent locals as we had some good GC candidates/councillors). As an Extinction Rebel on Waterloo Bridge last month, I feel I have to speak up against climate change and mass extinction; gender identity politics cuts against my fundamental beliefs that centres the materiality of biology at the heart of everything that is destroying the planet and women's bodily autonomy and right to self-define.

EileenAlanna · 23/05/2019 09:32

@Binglebong I'll be spoiling my vote today, same as I have for every recent ballot. If an Independent was standing who openly stated they can tell the difference between women & men I'd vote for them but there hasn't been so far. I won't vote for any individual or political party that advocates for the trans agenda. A couple of years back a very "nice" Labour member/activist earnestly explained to me after a WPUK meeting, when I told him I refuse to vote for any party that supports self id etc., that the whole men aren't women thing could be looked into after the important Brexit stuff got sorted, then his face fell as he connected the dots as I'd already explained that for me & most women that WAS the important stuff. We're almost 52% of the population/electorate yet we're still told to sit quietly & patiently wait for the menz to get round to it.

Funnyhoney · 23/05/2019 09:35

Birdie6 is incorrect. Officers at the polling stations do not see the ballot papers. The votes have to be secret and the officer cannot interfere with this and therefore they do not take out the spoilt ballot papers. They are counted later and returned. Just find it annoying when incorrect information is posted as correct.

Childrenofthestones · 23/05/2019 09:57

Waste of a vote.
If you want to protest put it on a banknote.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 10:08

I find the attempt at emotional blackmail by some people on this thread quite disgusting. This is a board for women's rights, our right to vote for who we choose, not vote, spoil our ballots.

My husband is an EU citizen and we will both be voting for people that support Brexit. He will still be entitled to live and work in this country - their is a simple app that can be downloaded that is very easy to complete for any EU national. The further distanced from the people the less accountable government/ruling bodies are - it is not racist, xenophobic or anything else to hold this view.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 23/05/2019 10:11

I would love to just spoil the ballot in the name of women's rights. But Brexit is important. I've repeatedly said that either we stay in the European sphere of influence as a partner, or we'll be used by the American one however it pleases. Of the two the EU is a much safer place for women, and in some countries women have achieved near equality.
That would leave me voting green in my area, and turning green as I do it. Politics is such a disgusting game in a corrupt system.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 23/05/2019 10:14

X-post. Shame and bully genderfree? Really? It's a discussion board. You do a good job of reminding me that Brexit is for those who don't like discussion.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 10:17

I find the attempt at emotional blackmail by some people on this thread quite disgusting.

ridiculous thing to say.

FreckledLeopard · 23/05/2019 10:33

Does anyone know Change UK's position re: women's rights and the Self-ID debate? I'm not able to bring myself to vote for Lib Dems or Green as a way to try and prevent Brexit, but reluctant to spoil my ballot if Change UK offers a viable solution?

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 23/05/2019 10:34

But Brexit is important

It is an important issue. On the website linked above, it advises for me to vote green to give the best change of remain parties to have a say.

Unfortunately, the greens have shown a shocking disregard for safeguarding (will duckworth, the Challenors, probably many others we dont know about). As important as Brexit is to me, safeguarding is more so.

I'm not going to vote for a party who doesn't protect children and vulnerable adults to send a message to the Tory's and labour. They probably won't listen anyway.

Langrish · 23/05/2019 10:37

People who spoil ballots are generally perceived as the green crayon brigade. It doesn’t achieve anything at all.
Use your vote tactically (RemainVoter.com or whatever the opposing view equivalent is if that’s your bag).

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 10:57

Discussion is not the same as shaming, emotional blackmail - see @yourOp playing the victim, others telling people they shouldn't spoil their ballot...

Feel free to discuss my reason for supporting Brexit as stated in previous post.

Darkattheend I agree with what you say about EU/US but like I said a more local governing body is to me more accountable.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 10:59

Wow, a brexi voter telling people to go ahead and spoil their ballot paper is fine, but a remain voter asker people not to do so is shaming, bullying, absolutely disgusting.

Grin

You couldn't make it up.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 11:06

I'm not telling people to spoil their vote I'm saying it's up to each individual. I have considered spoiling mine but this thread convinced me otherwise. I also considered voting SNP due to Joan and Joanna but Teddi put a stop to that.

Everyone has the right to vote, not vote or spoil as they so wish. No one should tell them it's wrong whatever you choose. If you support remain go vote remain, if you support Brexit vote for Brexit, if you don't care about Brexit and want to spoil your vote then do that - personal choice.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2019 11:12

Everyone has the right to vote, not vote or spoil as they so wish.

Obviously.

You are the only one here who is going on about people's opinions being shameful, bullying, disgusting, etc.

BTW the idea that exiting the EU we will get "a more local governing body/more accountable." is absolutely laughable. Under WTO rules we will have no power, no control, no say, no accountability whatsoever.

Genderfreelass · 23/05/2019 11:17

Helmet others have also made similar comments re manipulative posts, see Jessica post 2nd from top of this page (3) incase my post goes to next page. There are others throughout the thread. So nice try at making me out to be the only person who thinks that but people can read and see for themselves.
