Depressing Twitter thread

Just read through some of the replies to this thread. So many OMAB people

-insisting they’re women/female,
-suggesting that a woman who has been raped and has therefore asked for a female health worker “hasn’t made it clear enough that she is triggered by male bodies”
-must accept that all the other medics in a clinic believe that transitioning actually means that an OMAB person is really female (thus implying the woman’s understanding of biology is incorrect - gaslighting at its most unpleasant)
-suggesting anyone who asks for a woman and doubts that an OMAB person is a woman “must want to inspect genitals

The extent of the boundary pushing makes me feel physically sick. There is no respect whatsoever for the women who express their discomfort, only repetition of “well I’m a victim too”.

I can’t face replying on Twitter. I’ve blocked the most unpleasant. I wanted both to express my discomfort and extend my sympathy to all the women who are affected by this.

Replying never helps as they just pile on even more. The way they talk about and to women makes me feel physically sick too. Best to let them vomit abuse alone in their echo chambers.
Flowers for you.

I'm not clicking, but threads like that are very much the reason I stopped opening Twitter at all. Once you've realized how appallingly self-centred the blokes on Twitter are, and how much they both hate and disregard women, it's only going to damage your mental health to keep reading the same poison over and over.

Personally, I realized I was just lining up to be abused every time I opened Twitter. I am not about doing that to myself, and I encourage every other woman to step away from that too.

I now no longer open links from twitter. It’s a misogynistic sewer and men are welcome to it.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/05/2019 19:24

Yep, I am quite happy over here in my Twitter-free world. It's actually a considerably nicer place, and I can't quite work out how I ever ended up spending any time on that crapsite in the first place.

AnyOldPrion · 16/05/2019 19:27

Well that seems quite unequivocal! I just have to stop going on Twitter and my life will improve!

I'm twitter banned and actually quite glad, it really is a sewer full of the worst of humanity. Obvs nice people as well but the worst tend to also be the most prolific 😕

Actually I thought most replies were GC and firmly so. 74% rejected the idea of a TW if they requested a female nurse/doctor.

Orchidoptic · 16/05/2019 20:39

OMAB?

Observed Male At Birth. Good one.

Yes, that’s heartening. I’m allergic to gaslighting though, and the worst posters on that thread were so grim.

Still, I’m glad I posted here. You lovely women have cheered me no end.

Thanks all!

Cake and Flowers and some Gin for tomorrow evening.
