Dundee Councillor breached the code of conduct and abused the claimant with the term T*.

www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/local/dundee/892784/watchdog-finds-dundee-councillor-breached-code-of-conduct-with-offensive-tweets/

I think its a step forward, not sure if it sets a precedent? Any legal eagles about to give any insight?

Hmm . Still being spun as transphobia...

MyAuntyBadger · 15/05/2019 17:09

Good outcome, he shouldn't be a councillor.

LizzieSiddal · 15/05/2019 17:43

There's another thread on this nasty little man, here...

Outanabout · 15/05/2019 19:19

Why are you all misgendering them? Their pronouns are they and them.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/05/2019 21:37

Why ? Is there more than one of him ?

littlbrowndog · 15/05/2019 21:39

Haha. They or them. So,trying hard to be cool but so not

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/05/2019 21:41

So there's 2 of them ?

BogglesGoggles · 15/05/2019 21:44

I do find something slightly hypocritical about the treatment of the t word by GC femenists. It is after all an accurate description of GC feminism which GC femenists take objection to. In the same way that saying a trans woman is still Male in an accurate description which TRAs object to. You can’t have it both ways. Either everyone can say what they want or no one can. And the latter is just unacceptable. I appreciate that the TRAs started it etc but I just see this kind of thing as stooping.

DodoPatrol · 15/05/2019 21:47

No, BogglesGoggles. TERF is a term applied to any woman who can recognise a man when they see one, whether or not they are a radical or even any kind of feminist.

Ask yer granny if she's a RadFem. She might be, I suppose, but even if she isn't, I bet she doesn't think male people can be women.

LizzieSiddal · 15/05/2019 21:47

From the report
The counsellor also breached ethical standards by using abusive and vile language to and directed at members of the public.

Out And you’re only comment is to worry about his pronouns? Nothing about his “abusive and vile language”?

SirVixofVixHall · 15/05/2019 21:49

If the word transwoman was generally used as a term of abuse, followed by allusions to women being hanged, burnt, shot, their uteruses ripped out, raped etc etc , then maybe they would have a point. Asking why it is objected to is like asking someone from Pakistan why they object to being called paki, when it is “only short for Pakistani” .

NeedChoos · 15/05/2019 22:05

Where does it say that the councillor uses they/them?

OP posts:
LizzieSiddal · 15/05/2019 22:31

It doesn’t need. It reminds me of that young masked person in Bristol, terrorising those women trying to meet and discuss the changes in the GRA, screaming
“my pronouns are they you cunt”. We should just magically know these things, you know with our mysterious, womanly ways.Hmm

RedDogsBeg · 15/05/2019 22:32

I believe the councillor asked theys fellow councillors to use those pronouns when referring to they and they has they/them listed as pronouns on theys twitter bio.

I realise that is as clear as mud but hope you get the gist NeedChoos.

LizzieSiddal · 16/05/2019 00:03

Thanks for that explanation Red. It’s all now very clear, for all to see and admire.

What a time to be alive Grin

RedDogsBeg · 16/05/2019 00:08

Indeed it is LizzieGrin

sackrifice · 16/05/2019 08:54

It is after all an accurate description of GC feminism which GC femenists take objection to

Nope. As Feminists include trans people that are biologically female.

It's not hard to work out. Really.

NeedChoos · 16/05/2019 12:48

Thanks, I don't think I misgendered the councillor and I agree it is as clear as mud and I also read the twitter tirade re the suspension, which is a kin to a toddler tantrum.

I'm mystified how they can expect to be taken seriously.
eg LM wanting a personal apology from a QC = overly entitled with utterly unreasonable expectations.
Don't forget to include NB / transmen in the abortion debate = completely missing the point that this legal challenge will put millions at risk as well as setting women's rights back to the 50's / 60's but ...hey don't want to hurt someone's feelings.

I find this ... the tipping point - the lack of perspective / of right and wrong. The hand wringing about inclusivity and an inability to just get on and do something positive, build something for themselves, rather than taking, breaking and pulling down others.

OP posts:
RedDogsBeg · 16/05/2019 13:04

Agree about the twitter tirade it was such a toddler tantrum, when I looked it wasn't receiving much, if any, feedback it was tumbleweed. Theys faults are many - pomposity and self righteousness being the least of them.

No regard whatsoever about women or women's feelings, the sexism and misogyny is so blatantly obvious I cannot understand how it isn't seen and called out for what it is.

NeedChoos · 16/05/2019 13:10

Agreed - I've also looked at other high profiles on a similar vein. They receive a similar amount of engagement, which I do find encouraging.

EweSurname · 16/05/2019 13:12

Some people - include women (sex) in their feminism and not men (which includes transwomen)

Some people - include women (gender identity) in their feminism and not men (which includes transmen)

Only one group gets called TERFs. Always found it confusing.
