makemorenoisemanc.wixsite.com/mysite/mmnblog/woman-attacked-at-silent-vigil-an-interview-with-gemma-aitchison clicky (hopefully).

Thanks for this, DJ.. What a brave woman, and sadly, yes, the irony meter is broken.

I remember 30 years back having bottles thrown at us on a reclaim the night march. Sometimes it feels like we never make any fucking progress.

Thanks dj lippy and Gemma. So brave. On her own and attacked by 3 men

MindTheMinotaur · 15/05/2019 17:33

Thanks Gemma and DJ Lippy.

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/05/2019 19:19

Well done Gemma, and thank you. I'm so sorry these idiots had to prove, yet again, how very unequal life is becoming for women, and how normalised it is becoming that women are a subclass with less entitlement to law or anything else.

Fuck. That.

Seriously.

Women are routinely now being called sexist for saying that men commit violence too.

It's ridiculous to think a women standing silently is being brave, but she is.

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/05/2019 20:27

And your point is? Grin Other than desperate deflection and trying to yank the focus back to men, where women should (obviously) be focusing all the time?

Again. Fuck. That. Have a Gin

reindeermania · 15/05/2019 20:37

Hfhfhfj- have you read the article? Her protest isn't about women who commit crimes, or how their conviction for crime compares to that of male counterparts committing the same crimes. Nor is it about police brutality toward young males. That's a different issue altogether.

"DJ Lippy.
Hi Gemma. I’d be interested to know more about the protest: was it about the police and CPS taking rape victims phones as evidence?

Gemma Aitchison
Yes, in part. Also the historically low conviction rates and the police being found to sexually exploit and perpete domestic abuse without consequence. Women reporting stalkers and ignored and ends up dead. All but 1 terrorists since 2001 had domestic abuse in their history. If women were taken seriously, as people and not collateral damage, what could be prevented?"

Here is a brief explanation of the reason for the protest from the interview linked above. It is relevant and important. Thank you Gemma

FermatsTheorem · 15/05/2019 20:47

Gemma's protest was incredibly brave.

In a system where men have been acquitted of murder claiming it was rough sex gone wrong (with a woman they'd never met before that day, and a knife kept under the pillow in the off chance that this almost stranger was into blood play...), or acquitted of rape on the grounds that the accused tripped and fell penis first into the drunk-to-the-point-of-unconscious body of their underage victim, something is irredeemably broken about our criminal justice system. To then add victim blaming insult to injury by demanding all of a woman's phone records/emails/social media for 7 years prior to the offence is just hideous. Who would bother to report under such a system? Certainly not me.

Oh, and grey rock with the MRA, people, grey rock.

SimplySteveRedux · 15/05/2019 20:48

You do realize men get more jail for the same crime a woman does right?

Haha, this old bollocks. You do realise the amount of men that get convicted for crimes against women is ridiculously low, right? And let's not even go there with sexual offences.

SimplySteveRedux · 15/05/2019 20:49

Sorry for the tangent.

Hfhfhfj is yet another misogynist who argues their point with something that has nothing to do with the topic in question.

The state of this world Sad

I have 2 young DD and I have genuine fear for them.

Thank you Gemma, I truly appreciate what you're doing, and try to do my part also.

This board gives me some hope, not much though as the shit just doesn't seem to stop.
