Letters from political parties

This is probably totally irrational, but it has pissed me off somewhat over the last few months. There may be a reasonable explanation for this, but I can't really think of one.

My husband has received political campaign post addressed only to him from Lib Dems and Brexit Party. The Lib Dems one came just before local elections and the Brexit Party one today, just before European elections. I have emailed both the Lib Dems local MP (March) and Brexit Party (today).

The Lib Dems told me they'd look into it, and then never came back to me. Obviously too soon to receive a response from the Brexit Party.

I originally thought maybe I was on the edited version of VR and they weren't able to send me propoganda, but I mentioned it to my mil who said the ones she had received were only addressed to fil.

No idea why I'm so cross about this, I can read what they have written normally total bollacks but it just makes me think that they have forgotten women have the right to vote. We have a woman PM FFS.

Is his name before yours in he alphabet? Most parties just send mail to the first listed person in the register. In my case, it comes addressed to me not to DH as my name is higher up the alphabet than his.

nrpmum · 15/05/2019 11:20

Yes it would, as would fils over mils. You could be on to something there. told you I was being irrational

I got a personally addressed one from the LibDems. He got one from the Brexit Party. I'm not sure there's any logic to it

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/05/2019 11:21

Snap donkey, my DH didn't understand why I got Brexit party leaflet and he didn't.

GarthFunkel · 15/05/2019 11:30

I got a personally addressed one from the LibDems. He got one from the Brexit Party. Exactly the same situation here. He's higher in the alphabet though, as well as you know, being a Man.

TigerCubScout · 15/05/2019 11:33

DH got one from the Brexit party and one of the other parties.
They were both addressed: FirstName MiddleInitial (DC's Initial) Surname.
I assume they got them from the same source - not sure what DC's initial is doing in there!
I haven't received anything addressed to me personally.

tabulahrasa · 15/05/2019 11:48

Last general election my DP, my DS and my DD ( she wasn’t even old enough to vote in that one, only Scottish ones) all got letters addressed to them from various parties...I got nothing.

If it hadn’t been for DD getting them I might have assumed it was just men... but clearly they just weren’t sending me them, lol

blamethecat · 15/05/2019 12:38

Could it be to do with the electrol role and what they can buy/see , I think you can opt out of your details being available for people to buy ?

whiskeysourpuss · 15/05/2019 12:43

I'm not on the edited electoral roll & I got one from the Brexit Party the other day - live alone though so no idea about the male/female thing

TeenTimesTwo · 15/05/2019 12:46

Perhaps it is to do with whether or not they think you vote, and who you vote for.
My DD1 had her first voting in the recent council elections.
I note she has been sent stuff re Europeans elections, and we haven't.

I never tell my polling card number to the people collecting them just outside the entrance, and am usually 'undecided' to canvassers.

Xiaoxiong · 15/05/2019 12:46

I also got a Lib Dem letter and DH got a Brexit Party one despite him once being a signed up Lib Dem and everything!! We have different surnames, same registered address. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there's some sex-based profiling going on.

Goosefoot · 15/05/2019 12:51

I never put too much thought into how the machine spits out the envelopes. The other day I received a letter saying that my cat who has been dead for 5 years, is due for his shots - from a clinic we never visited.

It's something to do with the whims of the gods.

ConfusedMoi · 15/05/2019 13:05

I received a personally addressed leaflet from the Brexit Party but DH didn't. My first name initial is before DH's in the alphabet so that sounds a good enough reason to me.

DpWm · 15/05/2019 14:12

I keep getting them sent the me, DO isn't getting them.
I'm sure there's a reason why they send to one named person at an address it's not sexism in our case!

nrpmum · 15/05/2019 19:21

Who knows then 😂

Can't be to do with the voter/non voter unless they actively target non voters because I do, and he never has twat that he is

I got a Lib Dem one and a Brexit one (both named).

Dh has had nothing. I’m first in the alphabet (and female).

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/05/2019 19:31

I might stop people coming in my garden. I've just had a leaflet from Tommy Robinson

soundsystem · 15/05/2019 19:35

I'm out house the Brexit Party and Lib Dem's ones were addressed to me, and I think we got a labour one each.

Last time round we got a Lib Dem one addressed to us both jointly which I appreciated as a paper-saving exercise.

We're both on the same version of he electoral roll, both always vote and vote similarly so a bit of mystery...

WhereYouLeftIt · 15/05/2019 20:38

We've received generic flyers from most parties, but an addressed one from the LibDems.

It was addressed to me, and my name precedes DH's alphabetically.

R0wantrees · 15/05/2019 20:55

Parties hold quite a lot of information about individuals from different sources.
Post will often be targetted due to costs.

beeyourself · 15/05/2019 21:33

I'm on the non-public electoral roll. I've had most of the usual parties propaganda sent to me (female). dP gets nothing (male). My name is before his in the alphabet.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/05/2019 21:34

I got a brexit one today

But my name is before dh in the alphabet so maybe thats it

nrpmum · 15/05/2019 21:37

Probably to do with the alphabet as opposed to misogyny then. I'll untwist my knickers now 😂

OP posts:
yetea · 15/05/2019 21:38

I’ve had Lib Dem and brexit ones too and DH none. My surname is first alphabetically. But I know at the last GE he got a flyer for him from labour and I didn’t get anything 🤷‍♀️
