James Charles - Twitter outrage and straight men

I doubt many of us follow YT beauty gurus but this saga has been trending on twitter all weekend apparently.

This young gay man is accused (amongst other things - he also is accused of shady dealings against a former mentor) of being predatory towards straight men and twitter is collectively OUTRAGED that straight men's boundaries are not being respected. Because of this he's lost over 2 million subscribers in a couple of days.

Obviously I agree that not respecting boundaries is wrong but I can't quite get over the cognitive dissonance of woke twitter being so very angry about this but lesbians not wanting cock is bigoted and transphobic.

Actually I do get it. It's because men are allowed to have boundaries unlike any women it would seem.

Seriously James's best career move right now would be to claim an honest and true lady gender and backdate it.

If anyone wants a comprehensive breakdown of the full (and slightly tedious) saga a certain website that tracks internet personalities has a full breakdown linked from the home page.

Or search james charles on twitter for thousands of memes about wronged and terrified straight men.

It drives me nuts how inconsistent the 'rules' are when it comes to this stuff.

Aren't they gunning for him because he earlier said he didn't want to sleep with FTMs as a gay man, or something? I will check out that other site you mention.

Not sure. Apparently he said something that was deemed as transphobic a while back but idk what it was.

Tbh a lot of it seems like overblown youtube drama as is par for the course. I was just mainly struck by the overt doublethink about who is allowed to have boundaries and for what reasons.

I’ve been following this too, mainly because I like Tati and find her to be salt of the earth.

JC seems to roll from scandal to scandal but the whole trying to convert straight men is likely the last straw in his short YouTube career.

I'll have a look at the other place as well

Bearing in mind i havent looked yet, i am interested in what constitutes 'predatory'

A young gay man i know has complained many times about sexual assaults in gay clubs (usually in arguments/debates with me about feminism)

But my bil has also made comments about evangelical gays ...(.fuck knows what that mean!) so i think there is also an impression amongst straight men that gay men are just 'after them'

I stop blethering and have a look

I think the focus purely on sexual orientation is slightly misleading. From what I can gather a lot of the predatory behaviour stems from the power of celebrity status/wealth and thinking that he can buy or barter for whatever he wants. Not that dissimilar from Spacey or Weinstein but with the follies of youth thrown in to the mix too.

Apparently he said something that was deemed as transphobic a while back but idk what it was.

He made a video talking about his sexuality where he said he wasn't "fully gay" in a Kinsey scale sense because he sometimes fancied FtM trans people before he realised they were FtM. Got ripped to shreds for "invalidating" them and implying they aren't "real" men. Pink News did a story on it (with all their usual nuance and understanding).

deydododatdodontdeydo · 13/05/2019 09:42

BBC are reporting this as he lost followers following a spat with Tati about product endorsement, and only a passing mention of "manipulating sexuality".
Are they underplaying it?

OvaHere · 13/05/2019 13:31

Yes. It appears like the product endorsement was the just the straw that broke the camels back.

A number of accusations of inappropriate sexual behaviour have since been made going back to when he was at high school. He seems to be highly impulsive with a very poor sense of boundaries.
