Just received this email from Standing for Women:

3.30 - 5pm 15th May 2019, House of Lords Committee Room 2A.

Our talks are:

Have a great Sunday!

Happy to say that my MP got back to say that they will be trying to go if they can fit it in. Smile

ChattyLion · 13/05/2019 19:22

Obviously I will be asking my MP afterwards if they did find time or sent their researcher from their office or what.

I think it really helps that this meeting is ‘Parliamentarians only’- seems a good idea when issues are sensitive and MPs are jumpy. It’s not hard to imagine that they can speak more freely outside of a public meeting. Also good that they have the luxury of being able to discuss this in peace.

Parliamentarians will get to talk without the sinister mask-wearing protestors (like at the Bristol jam jar event last year), bomb threats to the venue and withdrawal of business threats to the venue, cancellation of venue bookings, the grandmother-punching (at speakers’ corner) and being trapped by aggressive people on a staircase (Bristol event again). Their meeting in the Lords will be surrounded by people shouting ‘Burn it down’ like they do when women meet to talk.. Hmm

Done

ChattyLion · 14/05/2019 17:28

Bumping in case your MP needs a last minute nudge..event is tomorrow afternoon.

Well mp has been emailed and I've got a positive response back. Let's hope they have a good turnout.

Thanks Standing For Women.

Lewis has just announced that the Labour Party wrote to him today suspending his membership because of his activity on social media. Hope the meeting tomorrow is good.
Be interesting to see how many labour MPs attend. Wink

Shock

And yet Lils goes unchallenged.

Fuckers.

How disappointing. Insulting women on social media is fine, especially if you're meant to be representing them but standing up for them is a reason for suspension.

oops, got an error message after posting the first time

Suspended by Labour? Badge of Honour these days.

Tony Robinson has resigned, saying Corbyn is "Useless as Shit."

^‘I’ve resigned from the Labour Party today. I was accused of transphobia by the usual suspects, and told I must attend a disciplinary hearing. My membership suspended too. Not really up to fighting it so I’ve saved them the trouble.
I feel free to carry on campaigning for women.’^

Wow. The Labour Party need to take a long hard sober look at themselves.
What on earth do they think they are doing?
In the meantime that is great news that he is undaunted by this. Flowers
Hope the event goes really well tomorrow- please update us on here.

MyCatHogsTheBed · 15/05/2019 00:05

Does anybody know if the conference proceedings will be available anywhere?

Yes that's what I meant. It sounds like they're presenting scientific papers(?) ... in which case often there is a booklet given out with all the papers in full in it.

SisterWendyBuckett · 15/05/2019 08:25

Hope it goes really well. It's fantastic that parliamentarians have this opportunity to find out more from a range of excellent and informed speakers.

My MP is an avid Corbyn supporter who is currently climbing the greasy pole, so there is zero chance of him going.

Others who want to attend will look at the action taken against Lord Moonie and know exactly what they risk by sticking their head above the parapet.

It's so depressing, but I just hope enough independent minded MPs do turn up.

Very biased times article but the comments are gold.
