Please come if you can. Let’s get a sell out and show support. You need to email the organisers for an access code to purchase a ticket. Details on the link.

It’ll be great, and Leeds needs it!

This looks great! Thanks for sharing.

DeployTheTut · 10/05/2019 11:48

How do we get the Access code for the tickets? Do we email the organiser, or can you provide them by PM?

AverageAvenger · 10/05/2019 12:04

Hi, email [email protected] for access code.

Thanks!

Ereshkigal · 10/05/2019 13:58

That's brilliant. I don't think I can make it as it's a bit far for me and going to lots of other stuff this month, but it's a great line up and I was very impressed by Cllr Sarah Field.

DeployTheTut · 10/05/2019 15:08

Agreed: it’s rare to find a Councillor anywhere that’s prepared to stand up for women. Did you see that awesome speech she did, about prostitution?

Yes I did!

DeployTheTut · 10/05/2019 19:48

I became a fan, that day!

stumbledin · 11/05/2019 00:36

@AverageAvenger

Is this meant to be an open event.

I think a some women who have seen the meeting advertised on eventbrite and tried to get tickets have been put off as it the code thing implies if you aren't part of some "in group" you aren't welcome.

There is nothing on the event page to indicate you can email for the code.

And in fact if you can just get it by emailing why bother with a code.

All comes over a bit strange if it is meant to be the "UK Launch"!

MaryContrary1995 · 11/05/2019 01:00

Hi, Please don't feel unwelcome. I think the code is mainly just to make sure security is ok. Tickets are going to known women's organisations first but as I understand it anyone can go. Contact the spinners, I'm sure they'll sort things out 😊

DeployTheTut · 11/05/2019 07:37

Contact the spinners Is great advice. I’m sure they’ll give the code out to anyone that wants to go. It’s a sad time we live in, where women have to protect themselves like this.

stumbledin · 11/05/2019 13:23

Thanks for responses.

But I was just trying to point out the impression given by the way the eventbrite page is set up.

And in fact saying it is going to known women's organisations just makes it seem it isn't in fact a launch event, but an event where an in-group can congratulate themselves on how on message they are!

I am sure this isn't intentional but sometimes the unintentional consequences can undermine the original intention.

Other groups, eg WPUK and We Need to Talk have publicly advertised meeting but not then undermined that public invite by implying only a select few are going to be allowed in.

So my post was reporting back on the impression this is giving.

(Consequently some women are now sharing the code on facebook!)

AverageAvenger · 11/05/2019 15:04

Hi Stumbledin

I completely take your point. There are just A LOT of security issues with the venue etc. The organisers are trying to find a way of making it accessible without it being infiltrated. It really isn’t the intention to exclude anyone and there are various options for ticketing, including free one for women on low incomes.

There’s loads of effort being put in behind the scenes and trying to work out how best to ensure the least disruption. Leeds is absolutely toxic at the moment.

I’ll post again with an update.

OP posts:
DeployTheTut · 11/05/2019 15:23

Thanks for the update. I got an email response really quickly, and had the code within 10 minutes of asking. It’s a barrier, but it’s hardly women’s fault they have to do this. Blame the men that threaten the venue and the organisers!

AverageAvenger · 11/05/2019 18:42

Yeah I got a ticket quickly and easily too, after emailing. To be clear, what one of the organisers told me is that it is open to EVERYONE. It is completely inclusive. “Infiltrate” isn’t a reference to trans peopl btw, but to anyone trying to block buy to protest. Unfortunately safety and security has been a factor. None of us know where the venue is, but obviously safety has to be considered given the threats of violence regarding the Edinburgh event.

OP posts:
DeployTheTut · 12/05/2019 20:17

It’s interesting to see if the event will be protested, or not. There were no protests at Lesbians on Chairs. Perhaps we’re finally being left in peace?

DeployTheTut · 15/05/2019 14:27

Bump

DeployTheTut · 20/05/2019 18:54

So I notice that the codes aren’t needed any more. The tickets are now visible on the page. Do you think it’ll still be secure?

MindTheMinotaur · 20/05/2019 21:56

Taking on the organisation of an event like this is really tricky, much appreciation to the organisers for doing this in the he current climate.

TheInebriati · 20/05/2019 22:33

There were no protests at Lesbians on Chairs because misogyny is not a hate crime but homophobia is.

resisterpersister · 21/05/2019 08:43

It's an interesting theory- possibly some truth in it, but also no protesters at Woke News on Saturday or WPUK last night, so probably not the full story.

This.

Plus extra appreciation for the appropriate Freudian slip in there. Grin
Nobody is going to be trying to be a clique, why would they. They will be just trying to take precautions and keep women safe and be able to speak in a massively toxic environment for women who want to .. you know.. meet and talk to each other. Hmm

AverageAvenger · 21/05/2019 19:45

It’s going to be brilliant. Please, please come if you can. Leeds needs you.

I’m hoping there won’t be protests. Bit nervous about coming to my first Leeds meeting.

Really excited to see Sheila Jeffreys speak, though. What an amazing opportunity!
