Let me see if I understand you. A male bodied person should be able, through self-identification, compete as a woman in the Olympics, including in power lifting, wrestling, boxing, and sprinting? No, I am not with you. That could destroy elite women's sports.

No one really believes that TWAW. Even the most ardent proponents don't believe it. If they did, then they wouldn't need to keep repeating it to remind themselves, because they would consider it self-evident.

Eh? I have used the word "Lass" in my name for years - ever since someone tried to rubbish that beautiful line from Cleopatra about " a lass unparalleled" being sexist.

I studied "1984" at O level many years ago, and subsequently became a huge admirer of Orwell and his writings. I'm so glad to know his books exist, they're like an oasis of sanity in all this madness.

I've spent a lot of time thinking and reading about the whole trans issue, and am no nearer understanding why people like Shaw would tweet something like that. Female socialisation to be "Kind" ? That's far too simplistic. Knowing her career progression is still probably at the whim of middle aged men, so wanting to not identify with women's rights issues? Perhaps. A "woke" education where she really believes that biology does not determine sex?

The responses to that tweet gave me a good laugh and hope.

It applies only to women when they're told to just get used to significantly stronger men.

Wrestling still has weight classes. So does boxing. Ajax players don't self-ID as kids and play in youth football leagues. Etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

Sport is not war. Fair play is a significant, not a tiny minor, part of it.

So the only way male-bodied people in women's sports makes any sense is if the governing bodies of sports get rid of all categories that are there to level the playing field.

Why should women be the ones losing prize money, scholarships, and pride? (Oh, right. They're women. Silly me.)

This thread is worth a read as there are so many good and funny replies. As for ‘Who’s with me?’ - it seems like she’s on her own.....

Orwell, if you will, but I keep coming back to Catholicism and Trans-substantiation. The wine and wafers take on the magic essence and actually become the actual blood and actual body of Jesus Actual Christ. It does this in a way that "passes all understanding."
