And as Claire Fox tops the Brexit Party list in the North West she should be a shoo-in.

Thing is, apart from her, I can't think of any other candidates who meet the description.

What a crazy world we're living in now. Maybe it'll take a huge political shakeup (of which the Euros will be a part) to wipe some parties out (Change UK? Lib Dems? I'd say the Greens but it's not impossible that they become the main party of the Left if enough disaffected Labour types move across to them) so that others can rise in their place that look out for minority interests in a common-sense way without losing themselves down an ideologically woke blind alley.

(Well that's the hope but the timing isn't the best - Corbyn's just announced Labour will fight the Euros on the fields of Social Justice).

My god this is depressing.

Claire Fox defends paedo Gary Glitter and still thinks it legitimate to kill children in acts of terrorism / civil war and is unapologetic about her position to the father of one of the kids killed in Warrington, Colin Parry who is deeply respected there for his dignity and words of reconciliation.

Even Sinn Fein condemned the atrocity in the town. But not Claire Fox. She thought it was fine. And clearly still does from her recent remarks.

One of the other candidates for the Brexit Party who is from Warrington was so appalled at Claire Fox's selection and subsequent position on the IRA killing children, she quit the party.

I don't see supporting someone who thinks the killing of children is legitimate under any circumstances and supporting paedos as something that I'd stand up and shout about. It doesn't say much for you.

I will not mince my words here: Claire Fox is scum who isn't fit for office.

I rarely go that far with people in public life. But I will with her.

She disrespects a whole town and the effect the bomb had on the community. She unites Leavers and Remainers from Warrington in their utter disgust at her candidancy.

I don't believe she even lives in the NW. You can tell.

Womens groups refuse Lennon's potential MEP salary Isn't he a fellow traveller of comrade Fox?

Redtoothbrush
I hadn't heard about Fox defending IRA bombings. I'll look that up.

Ms Bate said: "I refer to the statement made by my fellow candidate Claire Fox about the position of her former party the Revolutionary Communist Party on the Warrington Bombing by the IRA in 1993.

"I am unhappy with Claire's statement since she has not categorically condemned the violence inflicted by the IRA.

"I stand by Colin Parry and his family and all victims of the Warrington bomb and in view of Claire's ambiguous position on the issue I cannot continue to stand beside her as a Brexit candidate and resign with immediate effect."

My politics might be wildly different to Sally Bate's but I am impressed by her stance on this.

The decision to put Claire Fox up as a candidate by the Brexit Party shows contempt for the ordinary people. She's not local and she's not wanted. If I have to have a Brexit Party candidate representing me in the NW, I wish it was Bate over Fox any day of the week.

Oh look. Here's some more about various Brexit Party candidates and their views on child porn. Featuring the wonderful Claire Fox.

The twisted truth about Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party

Like Boris Johnson, Owen Jones, Seumas Milne and Michael Gove they are ‘journalicians’, to coin a phrase, who make a career by breaking down the barriers between the media and politics. In the case of the artists formerly known as the RCP, they know that editors will always commission ‘contrarians’ who provide extreme opinions to order, and eventually a politician will find those opinions to be of service.

As a side point, are extreme characters on social media who also pursue a political career also journalicians?

I rather like the phrase.

Cohen having a pop not just at Claire Fox but also at his fellow Speccie scribe Brendan O'Neill. And next edition O'Neill will have a crack at Remainers and on we go.

I like the way the Speccie works.

Blimey, didn't realise Brendan had already had his right of reply. Fraser Nelson may need to keep them apart for the next few weeks at least:
