Feminist Current

StopThePlanet · 09/05/2019 17:00

Hiya!

I don't use Acast but I listen to many podcasts on varying topics - most "feminist" podcasts I have encountered are painfully woke and just make me angry (Feminist Current as a previous poster mentioned is a diamond in the rough). The following are female-led - I give you host name, podcast name, description, & link. The list is not in order of greatness just how they fell out of my brain - be advised some are light-hearted non-fiction and some are heavy-hearted non-fiction.

Ear Hustle by Nigel Poor

The Habitat by Lynn Levy
Gimlet Media
On a remote mountain in Hawaii, there's a fake planet Mars. Six volunteers are secluded in an imitation Mars habitat where they will work as imitation astronauts for one very real year. The goal: to help NASA understand what life might be like on the red planet—and plan for the day when the dress rehearsals are over, and we blast off for real.

None of the above involve business or economics - I have a very involved list of podcasts covering these topics that I enjoy. Let me know if you'd like more suggestions like from the original list above, or if you'd like some fiction suggestions, or other topics like business/economics and I will be happy to provide more lists.

I don't really watch TV so I tend to do things while listening to podcasts... I could literally spend an entire day listing good podcasts to listen to. Many of the podcasts I enjoy are co-led by groups of people (women & men) but I do have more female-led in my library if that is your main podcast focus.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Stuff Mom Never Told You- has been on forever so lots of topics covered

LazySundayMornings · 09/05/2019 22:48

I quite like Standard Issue - It's not radfem and has the odd overly-woke guest but generally it's pretty good.

LondonPainter · 09/05/2019 23:13

I think Standard Issue is really good

happyon · 09/05/2019 23:28

Best of the Left can be good too.

LauraMipsum · 09/05/2019 23:53

The Guilty Feminist and Standard Issue

Wonderbag · 10/05/2019 22:59

What’s Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls like?
Keep meaning to listen to that one

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 11/05/2019 02:52

I listen to a few podcasts on women’s health and strength training - they frequently have a strongly feminist slant, and since they’re concerned with female physiology, tend toward the rational.

So:

Grace and Grit.
Hike Like a Woman
Fitness & Fishnets
Purposeful Strength

For straight feminism - Women’s Liberation Radio News and Feminist Folklore.

What the world really needs is a true crime podcast from a strongly feminist perspective. I listen to a lot of true crime and I’m struck by how often crimes go unsolved or women get killed because either the victims as seen as “the wrong type of woman”, or women are not listened to or their experience ignored.

Revisiting cases from a feminist perspective would be both grim and enlightening.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 11/05/2019 03:06

In terms of feminism and true crime I should add My Favourite Murder, which does have a feminist slant, but which I find really annoying and don’t listen to.

user1492346620 · 11/05/2019 08:42

Crime junkie is a true crime podcast hosted by two women
It focuses on unsolved crimes mainly involving women

nonsenceagain · 11/05/2019 11:19

The Guilty Feminist is too woke for my liking.

lookatallthepeaches · 11/05/2019 11:22

I love Fi&Jane

redexpat · 11/05/2019 11:57

I like the Guilty Feminist but roll my eyes when they get woke. So much of it is great it wouldbe a shame to lose that.

There is a podcast section on mn too. Under film and tv.

I really cant get on with standard issue.
