MN have deleted the thread started by Maya - who lost her job for speaking up for women- because it talks about her crowdfunding for legal costs

Here is today's times article on the case https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tax-expert-fired-for-saying-trans-women-aren-t-women-tpqgnm9vj?shareToken=3f12f5cae61c02fd41040eb816fd37b4&wgu=2705255426441557045162977940f0d76fa1&wgexpiry=1564821162&utmmsource=planit&utmmedium=affiliate&utmm_content=22278

Whoop whoop! 🥳

Congrats Maya. Now that’s sorted, give them hell. 💐 Put the extra tenner towards a Women An adult human female tee shirt. 😁

Cwenthryth · 08/05/2019 01:38

Over 2 thousand people behind you Maya, many more in spirit as well

And yet The Guardian hasn't chosen to report on this.

Lamaha · 08/05/2019 07:21

I have two friends staying with me at the moment. We meet once a year and it's always a joyous time for all three -- we have known each other for a long time.

We were talking about various things and one of them said the Guardian is her paper, which she reads online. I said, Oh, I don't read the Guardian any more. She looked really surprised and asked why, and I just said, they're too politically correct, and left it at that.

The trouble was the other friend. She has a gay son who lives in Berlin, living the LGBT life to the full. He and his mum are very, very close and she supports him all the way. I'm pretty sure the GC message hasn't really arrived in Germany, and if it has she'll be on whatever side her son is., which will be woke.

I couldn't come out to them. Not this time, I'm pretty sure the Guardian one would be GC given time, if she knew but since the Guardian doesn't report it, and that's all she reads -- well.

Maybe it's cowardice. I look forward to this week all year and playing along is the easier option right now. I might speak to the Guardian friend afterwards, through email.

But it just shows that the message really hasn't reached everyone yet. The Guardian knows full well what it is doing in not reporting.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 08/05/2019 08:02

Lamaha - but you were wrong and deigrating yourself by saying the Guardian is too politically correct. It's not. If it were it would be out there supporting an oppressed population - women. They're not. You don't need to mention GC stuff. The Cologne attacks were what made the wool fall from my eyes. It is sexist, pure and simple.

Gone2far · 08/05/2019 08:06

Me too working

TimeLady · 08/05/2019 08:15

It's not just the Guardian. The BBC is worse as it's a national broadcaster, not a private publication with an editorial stance. And a lot of people view the BBC as the benchmark for unbiased news reporting - I was one of them, but not any more since the referendum and now their coverage of the trans debacle. Shame on them.

Three cheers for The Times, The Spectator and their support of Maya though! Flowers

Lamaha · 08/05/2019 08:27

Timelady, I know. But the friend had just said she doesn't watch any TV; she only reads the Guardian.

Lamaha · 08/05/2019 08:28

Anyway thanks to LM I just um, what shall I say supported The Thing for the third time.

Genderfreelass · 08/05/2019 08:40

Lamaha I feel for you.

The thing is though your guardian friend is choosing to no platform other sides of arguments by only reading very biased one sided arguments. I know so many woke guardian readers that will only follow the group thunk and I find that sad.

There was an article yesterday I think in the Guardian that maybe you could use as a slight intro to GC thought. I will try and find the link someone posted it on MN.

Genderfreelass · 08/05/2019 08:44

Lamaha

Here's the link, might be worth a try in a gentle way.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3579358-Article-on-women-and-sport-in-Guardian

LM really has done wonders in raising support for Maya, so many dedications in the comments 😂😂😂

Lamaha · 08/05/2019 08:56

Thanks Genderfreelass. I will read it later and pass it on to her after the week is over. Perhaps I can gently introduce her to the GC stance.

The sad thing is that both these women call themselves feminists. And the other one, were it not for her ultra-woke son, would definitely be on board. She is very outspoken. But also prides herself on how liberal she is at the age of 70-something. I will have to approach this very subtly. The last thing I want is to argue.

LangCleg · 08/05/2019 09:05

Fabulous news that sufficient support for That Which Shall Not Be Named has been achieved!

I have a second contribution to make from the quid-a-naysayer game I've been playing on here. Will do that later in the week.

FiredMaya · 08/05/2019 09:48

On my way to @BBCPolitics #politicslive to talk about my case. 11:15 on BBC2 with @MollyMEP @SamGyimah @graceblakeley and @tomhfh #equalityact #womensrights #FreedomOfSpeech

Yay! I remember Jen James's crowdfunder being discussed on Marr way back when. He couldn't keep the incredulity out of his voice - "they've raised TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS".

That was £25k in three weeks. You've raised £60k in three days, Maya. That's how much awareness has increased.

LangCleg · 08/05/2019 09:55

Bold fail. Soz!

TimeLady · 08/05/2019 10:02

Maybe buy your friend a short subscription to The Times for her birthday, Lamaha? Wink

S1naidSucks · 08/05/2019 10:04

That’s brilliant Maya. I’m looking forward to it. It’s the BBC so be prepared to be talked over and the strong suggestion that you’re a bigot that was asking for it. They’re not going to be GC friendly. Get those sound bites on early. Good luck.

RoyalCorgi · 08/05/2019 10:14

Get those sound bites on early.

I'd second that. Sonia Poulton demonstrated how to do it with "Google cotton ceiling"! Not easy to do, I imagine - a lot of women struggle because they are polite and refuse to talk over others, but Sonia has clearly mastered it.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/05/2019 10:42

Coffee break set for 11.15.

You get him told, Maya.

littlbrowndog · 08/05/2019 11:09

Watching when it come on maya. 💪👊👊

Justhadathought · 08/05/2019 11:16

And yet The Guardian hasn't chosen to report on this

Yes, and that is because what this is about is not about truth, injustice, free speech or democracy - but about ideology.

Justhadathought · 08/05/2019 11:20

Was that the one by Ellie May O'Hagen about how men behave during mixed sex swimming sessions?

She's a mate of OJ isn't she? I do wonder, though, whether she actually made the logical leap into thinking about mixed sex changing rooms etc. Probably not. She's young still - but she'll get there in the end.
