Arts Centre Melbourne puts men's comforts first

Went to a concert tonight and was met by "gender neutral" sign on women's toilets.
Complained thus to usher: "The United Nations is campaigning globally for all women and girls to have access to single sex toilets, and yet you are taking ours away."
Usher, sympathetically: "er, yes, that's a one-off requested by the production team."
Me: "Oh right. We'll I have birthing injuries which mean I have to sit on the toilet seat. That means women like me have to perform extra labour to clean the seat."
Usher: "I'm sorry about that. I'll pass your concerns on."
Me: "women had to fight for single sex toilets. They weren't just handed to us. You're putting the comfort and convenience of men ahead of the needs of women to privacy and dignity."
Usher: "ill let management know of your concerns. But I want to assure you this is a one-off."

What I could have added was that women wouldn't have seen the little paper gender neutral sign. They were not making an informed choice to go to a mixed sex facility. Concerning. Anyway, I hope others complained.

Well done OP but do you know what she meant by 'a one-off requested by the production team'? I'd hazard a guess that it was the nearest loos to wherever blokes were working and they couldn't be arsed to get themselves to the gents so they just commandeered the ladies loos.

It was a famous Aboriginal band doing a reunion - Yothu Yindi. It wouldn't have been because band members wanted the loos - it's the premier ruling class concert hall in Melbourne. They would have had wokerati on the production team. Its not as if the Yolgnu people have abandoned their firmly held ideas about men's and women's separate spheres.

Well done to you. How irritating that is.

Thanks for complaining!
I'm glad to hear that it was probably a one off.

Off topic, Yothu Yindi! That's a name I haven't heard in a long time! How was the concert?

Concert was great. Waking up to Baby after six hours sleep not so good.
The main reason I posted that dialogue was because I tried to crystallise some of the arguments here on the Everyman thread etc. Might help others complaining?
