Shaun Dellenty - the 'new' Andrew Moffatt

I've recently come across this author/speaker:

shaundellenty.com/

www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/Celebrating-Difference-Shaun-Dellenty/dp/1472961501/ref=nodl_?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-womens-rights-3576819-Shaun-Dellenty-the-new-Andrew-Moffatt" rel="nofollow" target="blank">amazon.co.uk/Celebrating-Difference-Shaun-Dellenty/dp/1472961501/ref=nodl

Like Andrew Moffatt, he is a gay man and (I believe) a former educator.

He goes into schools to talk about his book/LGBT inclusion and has an upcoming webinar for teachers via the National College.

His book is also endorsed by Peter Tatchell and Michael Cashman. The latter has recently tweeted out about Dellenty's book.

Is anybody familiar with him? Do we know if this inclusion supports girls/young lesbians?

After Andrew Moffatt's take on the EA and the questions around his work (great article via Transgendertrend) I find myself questionning any of the males going into schools to talk about inclusion, based on their experience as a homosexual man.

When I think about it, it only seems to be males or gay males influencing schools.
I've witnessed in my niece's school, in a privileged area, as the wealthy head boy is treated like a God, seemingly just because he is gay. Meanwhile, a friend's lesbian daughter is convinced she's trans now and a straight male.

Back to Dellenty - It may be this book and author do prioritise young girls and lesbians, but I am curious to find out more as I am hearing Dellenty's names and tweets crop up more and more in education.

First, the man is an absolute monstrous egotist.

Yes this is sexist stereotyping but I'm yet to meet a man in education who pushes themselves to the top and gets out of the classroom ASAP who isn't one of these.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:26

Where are the lesbian motivational speakers who were teachers and have spent hours self PR ing themselves and writing schemes of work??

🤔

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:27

I'm reading thread as I post, sorry but yes this:

And guess what? TIE's staff are all male. Not a single female or lesbian amongst them.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:29

Yes, I can't imagine how hard it was but the current head boy so supported, given free rein to invite in speakers, organise events and educate teachers on how to be more accommodating to those who feel they were 'born in the wring body'. Meanwhile a young lesbian has been 'transed'. She's 13.

Fucking hell.

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 14:30

In short, who is vetting trainers, visitors, external speakers?

This is the job of the individual schools who are allowing them in.

TIE are the authors of that fact free emotive drivel, masquerading as a letter that was sent to papers to whine about Joan McAlpines twitter threads on Sex and Gender.

I think it’s Rhiannon Spear who’s very keen to throw women’s rights away, despite the fact I think she actually is female!

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:32

Fuck.

This is why this is a feminist issue.

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 14:37

Here’s Rhiannon:

mobile.twitter.com/RhiannonV

Rhiannon doesn’t think Meghan Murphy should be allowed to address Scottish Parliament in support women’s rights. I don’t think Rhiannon likes free speech or women having rights or indeed reality.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:50

*In short, who is vetting trainers, visitors, external speakers?

This is the job of the individual schools who are allowing them in.*

This also comes down to the fact that some teachers, especially younger ones, or woke ones, will simply not see the bigger picture of all this.

Dots are not joined unless explicitly as teachers do not have the time to do this or have experience.

They rely heavily on Twinkl these days; twinkle have shiny resources on this, quick print and off you go. They rely on 'outside experts' - quick photocopy of a pack and off you go.

I'm a teacher, I tried to use some Twinkl science stuff for y5 as I thought it was easy; it was a pig ear and I ended up abandoning it but only as I've had years of experience teaching that particular area and I could see the flaws. A few years ago I'd have just dutifully followed it. (But I'm pre twinkle era.)

I only know about the issues around trans and children thanks to an experience with a child around 10 years ago and through mumsnet - mn joined the dots. Explicitly.

This misogyny is so subtly woven into general society and tv etc it has to be spelt out explicitly before critical thought can engage.

Luckily I've noticed there's a few savvy teachers on Tes forums. It's a bit mixed on Twinkl face book pages.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:51

To add, vetting only includes DBS clearance.

I'm going to do updated safeguarding training soon; I'm going to ask this specific question plus regarding suicide.

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 14:52

NeurotrashWarrior

Individual teachers shouldn’t be held responsible for this. Management/SLT/Governing bodies will be.

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 14:53

NeurotrashWarrior

Management are absolutely responsible for the content of anything they allow to be delivered in their school.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:53

I'm going to ask: who vets content?

And refer to Re Instagram self harm, so if a speaker talks about suicide how does this lie given journalism is heavily censored? And then mention the above "diversity" stuff.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:55

Management are absolutely responsible for the content of anything they allow to be delivered in their school.

Absolutely but I've seen posts on Twinkl where teachers in charge of pshe are looking around for schemes to buy in. They will be teachers. A head may not think to go through with a fine tooth comb.

Some Head teachers might not see the red flags we see if schemes are accredited as this one appears to be.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:57

Under the old curriculum the government had written schemes of work to fit all the objectives that had to be legally delivered. They were dry and boring but showed how to do things specifically. Schools didn't have to use them but often they did because, time.

These do not exist anymore.

Outside agencies create them now, many ex teachers. Schools buy them in.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 14:58

Or teachers write them themselves, finding what they can for free or very low cost.

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 14:59

*I’m going to ask: who vets content?

Again the school. I’ve everybody I can think of this and got quite high up and the answer is always individual schools.

Please consider responding to this government white paper on online harms.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 15:01

Yes I will do. Thank you. I'm going to ask in order to get the deliverer and fellow course people to think a wee bit.

R0wantrees · 04/05/2019 15:02

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 15:02

I can see so many loop holes with this current structure.

This is why questioning this matters.

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 15:02

A head may not think to go through with a fine tooth comb

Well that decision can bite them on the arse.

twinkl is becoming woker by the day, I challenge when I can.

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 15:04

I can see so many loop holes with this current structure

Absolutely! It’s always been known that there were safeguarding loopholes in the academy system and there was going to a massive scandal one day. Well here we are. Sad

RepealTheGRA · 04/05/2019 15:07

Twinkl will be the new sparklebox.

R0wantrees · 04/05/2019 15:10

My post is dancing around a bit because it seems to come back to safeguarding. To men, whose agendas and backgrounds may be ambiguous or disingenuous (at best - and we know the at worst equals the Challenors) influencing LGBT policy and teaching, while, in many cases, being given unfetered access to schools, charities, clubs and businesses, poweful supporters and funding.

There is absolutely zero regulation.

YY

The promotion of adults' agendas, 'rights' & ideologies will always risk damage to Safeguarding frameworks.

Adults who understand Safeguarding focus on the needs of every child and consider potential risks of harm.

School children should certainly never be used to affirm the needs/identities of adults.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 15:15

Well that decision can bite them on the arse.

Twinkl will be the new sparklebox.

Absolutely.

Heads delegate so much these days as they're so so up to their eyes in paper work and management etc etc.

There will be heads like AM who wish to be 'progressive' esp if stonewall offer awards etc.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2019 15:17

The safeguarding issues within all of this are sometimes subtle and not as explicitly clear as others. Obviously single sex provision is clear to us, but when outside agencies and building designers are blurring the boundaries, what and who do you believe?

Gender neutral is the new big thing in clothes which is great, not so great as a blanket approach unless it's spelt out to you.
