chicago.suntimes.com/news/transgender-women-name-changes-lawsuit-convictions-illinois-wisconsin/

"The Wisconsin lawsuit, filed by attorneys Adele Nicholas and Mark Weinberg, involves a lifetime bar that prevents plaintiff Karen Kreby from legally changing her name because of a 1992 conviction that requires her to register as a sex offender. Wisconsin law mandates that anyone on the registry must report all names with which they have been identified. So Kreby says she had to report both her chosen name and her birth name."

Gosh, imagine having to live by the same consequences as every other sex offender and violent criminal. Such discrimination. Can't imagine why more women aren't thrilled to share a toilet with them.

They should make a film of that stunning and brave life and get Julia Roberts or Charlize Theron to play Karen Kreby.

Genius idea Nauticant!

Brilliant idea Nauticant and how could they refuse, so stunning and brave 😂😂😂

I find it fascinating how many sex offenders decide to become laadeeez

Excuse me, nauticant, I think you'll find that only trans actors can play trans roles. Casting a cis female in the role of a stunning and brave trans woman is the most egregious example of transphobia imaginable. How could you even suggest that?!?

Seriously, however, I did hear this on the news and wondered also why it would be any different for trans folks compared to bog standard criminals. The law has to be applied fairly to all, surely, or else you provide an incentive for criminals, especially sex offenders, to identify as trans in order to evade a problematic past.
