This popped up on my Facebook - I don’t know if there are any of the appropriate categories of people here who might want to have a say?

“We have an interesting research talking to people that meet one of the sectors below from within the LGBTQ+ community.

ABOUT: LGBTQI+ people are seriously under-represented in the media. The client wants to understand current perceptions and the sense of inclusivity of the LGBTQI community in the UK, perceived representation in the media & advertising and LGBTQI culture in the UK. In understanding this they hope to improve the overall representation of LGBTQI+ people in the future in an impactful and meaningful way.
Session 1: Gay Men Aged 36 + Tues 7th May at 5:45pm
Session 2: Lesbian Women Aged 18+ Tues 7th May at 8pm
Session 3: Transgender: Transitioned from Male to Female Wed 8th at 6pm
All sessions will last 2 hours and will be held in London WC1 at the dates and times above. As well as being an extremely interesting study you will also receive a gratuity of £50 as a thank you.”

Notice that They have sessions planned for gay, lesbian and trans women - but nothing for trans men!!

It's so infuriating that anything labels with 'diversity' these days inevitably excludes women. I feel like I'm almost meant to feel grateful and relieved that they included lesbians!

OhHolyJesus · 26/04/2019 11:51

...and that broadly sweeping term of 'seriously underrepresented in the media'. It depends on the media doesn't it, frankly wherever I turn all I see and read about is transwomen and gay men, why do we hardly ever hear about transmen?

Of course it's specifically trying to increase representation of MtF trans people. Because they aren't taking up enough space already. Or maybe they consider all the stories about FtM trans people giving birth to be sufficient representation. What's the betting that we'll see a huge increase in MtF people in the media... and basically no increase in lesbian voices.
