Vandals have been scratching out female pronouns

They genuinely cannot afford to keep replacing museum quality signs which are, I imagine, quite expensive.
I - and, I'm sure, lots of others - would have been happy to contribute towards the cost of some CCTV security cameras, to catch the idiot responsible.
Having got away with this one, what else are the vandals going to wreck? Angry

TM's take on this ...

Genuine pub lol Grin

I would have thought people here would be happy to remove female pronouns from inanimate objects

No one here is ever happy about the rewriting of history, bullying, or female erasure of any kind.
Most boats are given a name. Objects with a name become anthropomorphised so need a pronoun.

I agree it was absurd for the museum to cave in to this one mad idiot vandal.

MenuPlant · 25/04/2019 21:22

How weird :/

Have the vandals explained why they're doing it or are the museum etc guessing?

The naming of boats and cars as female is a bit weird and I'm sure there's some feminist analysis knocking around somewhere about it... But even as someone who gets exercised from a feminist perspective about what many would consider pretty minor things, I can't get worked up about ships being female...

The assumption here is it's TRAs, I bet in the wider world this will be imagined as the work of crazed feminists!

I don't care either.
Hurricanes were named after women only until 1979. Quite an interesting short article.

For the love of Brizo, leave ships female - I find it to be homage based on my dad's perspective. I find it fantastic that powerful air and sea vessels are considered female - our prowess is undeniable.

That was an intetesting article thanks yeah nah yeah! Agreed with it wholeheartedly!

This was just discussed on The News Quiz:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0004f6r (from 20.20)

Andy Zaltzman did fine work in kicking off the segment. The other panellists then joined the fun. There seemed to me a vibe of irritation at being forced to comply with endless gender identities.

FreezerBird · 26/04/2019 19:18

Yes, it was beautifully handled on the News Quiz. I agree that they seemed fairly exasperated at the whole notion of prattling on about pronouns

It was on Have I Got News For You too.
