chequerboard flag - feminist symbol?

I keep seeing little chequerboard flags in the signatures of GC women on twitter. Is this a thing? Have to say, I associate it (possibly wrongly) with Croatian ultra-nationalism in the 30s and WW2 so it doesn't have positive connotations for me. Is there another meaning I'm not aware of?

It's been adopted as a flag representing 'genderfree' ie a person who experiences no sense of gender identity, only their biological sex.

My guess it's trying to get away from all the proliferating LGBT+ colours and get back to binary. It's a bit unfortunate that the checquered flag is already closely associated with F1 racing (the Croatian flag is only partly chequered).

Thank you! I didn't realise it was linked to 'genderfree', explains why I'm suddenly seeing it.
