Curious - how would this even work if we all used that bit above the text box to be a person for a post. There could be a de facto arsehole name...

SophoclesTheFox · 10/04/2019 09:33

Fair point, nauticant. I think it’s always useful to reflect on what people think the end outcome will be, and how that influences how they play the game.

I think there’s also something about losing battles to win wars, and how some people aren’t ever able to understand that tactic. It’s a particular weakness in the hostile forms of transactivism, who seem to have a will to “win” that persists even when it patently damages their cause.

Whereareyouspot · 10/04/2019 09:37

Am awaiting @MNHQ response to this

nauticant · 10/04/2019 09:41

SophoclesTheFox: yes, I think a long-term strategy needs to consider the impact of the Streisand Effect. Especially since the Streisand Effect is on our side.

I thought SH was a woman. But using the law to control women is a very male behaviour. Curious.

Popchyk · 10/04/2019 09:56

I enjoyed the video in the Daily Mail.

Spoke volumes.

I enjoyed the video in the Daily Mail. Spoke volumes.

Didn't it just? The DM have a knack of selecting just the right visuals to illustrate the message they want to convey in their articles in a passive aggressive way. Grin

whattershame · 10/04/2019 10:12

Thanks think I will deregister as can't risk it really can't.

I name change often though.

theOtherPamAyres · 10/04/2019 10:17

Anyone got a share token for the article in the Times, this morning:
*Mumsnet ordered to reveal name of user in trans row" ?

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/mumsnet-ordered-to-reveal-name-of-user-in-row-with-trans-activist-stephanie-hayden-rzmvl2q8z

Popchyk · 10/04/2019 10:18

I liked the way that the Daily Mail deliberately inserted their previous story (which caused much outrage) into the middle of this new story.

The press, eh?

A law unto themselves.

This is the first I've heard of this, must be living under a rock, but what the hell is wrong with the mug.

Hyrana · 10/04/2019 10:24

Oh, I posted.... how do I get Mumsnet to delete?

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 10/04/2019 10:35

Is that Stephanie in the video of the news clip in the middle of that DM article?!!! I've not seen Stephanie 'in real life', as it were, before....

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 10/04/2019 10:37

This is the kind of thing the Daily Mail loves - silly women on Mumsnet spatting with the transgenderererers.

ZebrasAreBras · 10/04/2019 10:40

That video is worth a thousand words.

Janie143 · 10/04/2019 10:42

Seems a bit exaggerated to describe this "wins a high court battle" in the Daily Mail headline Considering neither MN or the subject contested Hmm

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/04/2019 10:51

That video is worth a thousand words

Indeed. It is important that transwomen like Hayden are given both television and radio time, as it really helps get the message out.

TimeLady · 10/04/2019 10:59

I'd love to see Hayden on the telly. Let's hope Loose Women or This Morning send an invite soon Wink

TimeLady · 10/04/2019 11:01

Or Strictly ...or Dancing on Ice.

JaneEyreAgain · 10/04/2019 11:01

Well, it has worked on me, I detest the idea of entering into an online row with someone over whether the rights of transpeople trump natal females. I have been put off commenting on Twitter and on Mumsnet and giving voice to my genuine concerns about the silencing of women, ergo I have been silenced for fear that a few heartfelt comments might bring the police to my door or have my name the subject of a court order. How depressing.

ZebrasAreBras · 10/04/2019 11:13

Yes, this is the effect of TRAs like Steph threatening women with court action or police - the silencing of women on social media and in public.

Steph is trying to make out that Steph's cause is "to stop transphobic abuse on Mumsnet" - but it's not that. There is no transphobic abuse on Mumsnet - any actual abuse (of anyone) is deleted, because it's against the guidelines.

This is personal to Steph - about Steph trying to leave a unsavoury past behind with a name & gender change.

ineedaknittedhat · 10/04/2019 11:15

Interesting use of disabelist language by referring to people here as 'nutters'.

Also interesting that this is a common tactic that men use to smear women.
