I've been expecting more from Private Eye, to be honest, because so much TRA news is ripe for its satirical investigations. I can't believe PE is scared of ligitation. Nor is it woke. Anyway, this issue has one mention of trans stuff, in "From the Message Boards" (so not about one particular current news story). It begins:

My daughter Poppy (14) identifies as recreationally trans and is now known as Pip. I, he and his sisters Daisy (12) and Remain (2) were watching the episode of Peppa Pig in which her mum joins the Mummies Fire Service, and the narrator says: "Mummy Pig is dressed as a fireman." Why did she take her husband's name, I thought, surely it should be Mummy Sow? But before I could speak, Daisy exclaimed: "How sexist, she is a firefighter not a fireman!" Whereupon Pip shoulted: "2019 calling cisgender bigots! She identifies as a fireMAN! Get over it!!"

Grin I'm laughing at a 2 year old called Remain. That has to be a thing somewhere in the country surely?

There's this one.

GrinGrin

The two year old called "Remain" is indeed a wonderful touch. And translupine.

ToeToToe · 03/04/2019 23:32

A nice bit of light relief Grin Thank you. Much needed tonight.

The messageboard spoof has been running for years - the post you've quoted is one of dozens that have appeared by 'timthehousehusband' over that time - as a subscriber it's obvious that PE is GC, there's a dig at the extreme TRA in pretty much every issue either in the cartoons or the satirical regular slots. Love PE parodies.
"Brave and stunning" was I think coined here but could easily be a PEism along the lines of "tired and emotional"=drunk

I love Private Eye

They have done a sterling job exposing the satanic panic including Valerie Sinason and her ever expanding psychotherapy cult emanating from the batshit insane Clinic for Dissociative Studies, the ISSTD, the ESTD and other centres of quackery.

In the below radio interviews, Sinason claims that Jimmy Savile was a satanist. Her “evidence” is that people in therapy with her centre of quackery uncovered repressed memories of “satanist abuse”.

The issue of Private Eye’s debunking of Sinason’s claims starts at 8.18 into the video.

Sinason claims that people simply cannot bear to imagine “satanist abuse” because they find it too frightening.

In my extensive experience of this issue Sinason and her associates lie about the fact that they use recovered memory techniques. They claim they never, ever use recovered memory therapy. They do use it and they lie. I have witnessed it first hand.

Sinason attempts to defend herself against the critical reporting of her “work” by Private Eye criticism of Sinason continues in the second video here

I hope that the journalist who has done a sterling job researching and reporting these issues for the Eye (I know her name but will not repeat it here simply because of risks to her safety and risks of staking / doxxing) will thoroughly look into the parallels between the quack therapies offered to traumatised people and how they are often the same / similar to therapies offered to people diagnosed as being transgender.

Internal Family Systems is a good place to start.

I will be posting abut these therapies here also on a thread I started a while back but was too distracted with other things to continue at the time.

Weezol I should have made it clear that Timthehousehusband is a long-standing contributor/character. My point was that I don't think PE have covered trans stuff much recently. My New Year's resolution was to keep an eye out (without claiming to read every word) and I can't think of more than a couple of mentions since Jan 1. Perhaps we should put them up here when they do arrive, for more MN chortles.

ChiaraRimini I had paired "brave and stunning" with "tired and emotional", somewhere in my linguistic storebox, because they resonate, don't they. I wonder if PE really did come up with B&S too.

stunning and brave comes from the South Park episode of the same name.

Check out the South Park song: "In my Safe Space" - but put your coffee down first.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 04/04/2019 13:19

“Well I though we were all on board that Caitlyn Jenner is an amazing, beautiful woman who had the exquisite bravery of a butterfly flying against the wind.”
“You got a fuckin’ problem bro?! Cause it’s not Bruce fuckin’ Jenner! It’s Caitlyn, and she’s a fuckin’ stunning woman!”
“(deadpan) Oh, Caitlyn Jenner. she’s a hero. She is stunning and brave.” - “Stunning. She is absolutely beautiful and an inspiration.”

Always good to have sources...

Thanks Amore, will have to check that out!

FermatsTheorem · 04/04/2019 17:54

"Reality" as a cloak-wearing pantomime villain -I love it!

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 04/04/2019 21:40

“Oh no, not reality!”
