This makes sense to me, plus it also explains why we have equal pay problems, men ask for more money driven by ambition whereas we really don't usually need to recruit the highest cost man when there are moderate women who would do a better job.

Totally agree with this. I recently had an argument with someone at work who wanted to send our truly exceptional woman colleague on an assertiveness training course. I said she didn’t need assertiveness training which she really doesn’t. I hear her. I value her. Instead the organisation needs its men to shut the fuck up and listen to actual experts. I wonder if there’s a course for that.

Really interesting, thanks for posting.

Great post, thank you. In my huge multinational employer, two of the leadership courses are exclusively for women, teaching them how to adapt their traits and tendencies to help them display leadership that can be recognised in a male led environment. We pointed out that training the 20% of the workforce that are female in how to not be themselves at work, was perhaps not the best solution. We suggested some standard training for the male workforce in recognising talent and achievement rather than posturing but that was rejected. Only the women need to be trained in order to 'fit' better.

Interesting idea Grin

“the main problem of picking leaders on the basis of their desire to lead — or rather, to advance their career and acquire status — is not that we end up with too many men in charge, but that we end up with too many incompetent leaders (most of them men).”

Agree that women who seek to show ambition, take challenging things on etc are often negatively judged, while men are rewarded.
