Can't find the old thread... but anyway, there's an award/opportunity at work, only for people who are LGBT+++. I don't remember all the categories but they included genderqueer, genderfluid and genderfree. Also K, which I'm reliably informed stands for kink lifestyle. I don't understand why someone would need a special thing at work for getting off on weeing and whips (?? I don't watch porn, I don't have a clue), but maybe I'm just old fashioned. Anyway, old fashioned or not, I'm gender free because I don't believe in gender. And I wanted the professional opportunity. (Forgive me for the vagueness - being careful because of doxxing.) And you lot were encouraging...

I ended up applying - which didn't involve saying how I met the criteria, just ticking that I did. And then I was perpexedly approached by my woke boss.
(WB "Erm... so you realise that this is for LGBT+++ employees, Somer?"
S "Yes."
WB "Erm...it was my understanding you're a straight woman...?"
S "I'm genderfree and-"
WB: "Really?"
S "Yes, and I think I need to remind you that the staff handbook recommends that no-one should assume anybody elses's gender."
WB: "Oh, terribly sorry about that.")

I then had a lovely meeting with HR where they were very keen to update my pronouns on the system. I told them that being gender free I require the box beside gender to be left empty, but that I can accept female pronouns because that's my biological sex. They were happy with this novel idea Smile and to learn more about the difference between sex and gender. They young HR person didn't know they're not synonyms but he learns something new every day apparently.

And now... I've heard I'm shortlisted for the next round!
It's been announced to the whole company, and I've had a few bemused looks but no direct transphobia, I'm happy to report. Smile
My longsuffering DH (works in same field) has been teased a bit for my gender identity but he's happy to suffer for the sake of my fight for equality. Smile

The woke boss should just be glad not to have had a queue of people claiming K status - I mean, would the company require proof, is there a definition?

In the spirit of clarity and inclusion, perhaps the OP should suggest a bring your whip to work day? Or weeing Wednesdays? Each day could represent a different kink.

I'm sure, in the spirit of diversity, everyone could get on board and no one would mind at all.

I hope you win!

MrsFogi · 03/04/2019 09:32

OMG this has brightened my entire day up and made me snort out loud. I too would like to declare that I am gender free but MNers may use the female pronoun to describe me because that is my biological sex - I am going to be using this on every form going forward (lots of fun to be had in the "other" box).

While tbe woke have been playing identity bingo.
The rest of us have learnt to play chess.

So true. Love it.

GerryblewuptheER · 03/04/2019 09:37

Are you implying that the OP has falsified her gender identity in order to benefit from something? That never happens so you can relax

OVA - 'transgender' can include,

'Anyone who chooses, for whatever reason, to self-identify as transgender'

C&p'd from p 5 of

https://www.stonewall.org.uk/sites/default/files/transgenderbooklett_2004.pdf

Personally I'm happy with gender-free. (Well, I'd be happier if our culture actually let us be genderfree and didn't try to impose oppressive stereotypes. )

BruceAndNosh · 03/04/2019 09:41

I really don't see how anyone's private sexual proclivities should be relevant at work. Unless they claim that one person's "sexual harassment" is another's "right to sexual freedom"

BadPennyNoBiscuit · 03/04/2019 09:42

Oh come now, theres no need to believe that gender is a mere binary between trans/cis, its just not as simple as that.

64sNewName · 03/04/2019 09:44

Fabulous work OP

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 03/04/2019 09:45

I saw a couple wearing studded black leather fetish type clothing getting on a bus. She was on a lead attached to a scary looking spiky choker around her neck.

I found this public display of kink extremely offensive. Do what you want in private. Don't force the rest of us to witness it.

For this reason I find the idea of a special K identity at work very disturbing. Kinks have no place at work. Nobody wants or needs to know.

Ereshkigal · 03/04/2019 09:46

It’s nice to see inclusion of kink in a company award

Don't be foolish. It really isn't.

Kokeshi123 · 03/04/2019 09:47

LOL. Brilliant.

DpWm · 03/04/2019 09:49

So if we are gender free (and I truly believe I am, as gender is bollocks) are we now trans?

That'd be a yes from Stonewall.

Needmoresleep · 03/04/2019 09:50

Very very funny.

But in an odd way logical. We want to see acceptance of gender non conformity but sex segregated spaces.

I do hope you win.

(And wont be surprised to see this in tomorrows DM...I hope it does not affect your chances.)

LizzieSiddal · 03/04/2019 09:54

That is vomit inducing.

That's fab! Please keep us updated

EweSurname · 03/04/2019 09:56

Wonderful! Good luck with the next round Star

Iused2BanOptimist · 03/04/2019 09:57

She was on a lead attached to a scary looking spiky choker around her neck.

I honestly think this needs calling out. After all, this could be abuse in plain sight with her abuser delighting in flaunting his dominance. Should the woman end up dead from strangulation what possible chance would there be of a conviction of murder when the "sex game gone wrong" card is played?
I suggest that is anyone sees this in public they should dial 999 and demand police and ambulance (to check for injuries) at once. This is what I will do if I ever see this in public.
