Which is funny, because the team seems to have 'girls' and 'boys' teams

Of course, if you were previously on the 'girls' team but now 'identify as a boy' yet still play on the 'girls' team, then you could argue 'nobody has a gender', because your new 'gender identity' doesn't seem to have changed anything at all.

All of the above is great, I'm just a bit confused about 'hockey having no gender' when on the other hand people identifying as female while having male biology seem to walk onto female teams.

while those who 'identify as male' retire from their female teams and never compete again. theathletic.com/333877/2018/04/30/looking-forward-harrison-browne-first-openly-transgender-pro-hockey-player-retiring-to-take-next-step-in-his-transition/

It's almost as if sport has no gender, but it does have biological sex?

Has there ever been a professional sports person f2m that has progressed in men's sport after they've transitioned?

PalatineUvula · 02/04/2019 16:51

no there hasn't. there is one who is usually cited, namely Chris Mosier, but they haven't actually won anything professional. (usually things like '2nd place male 35-39 Vermont triathlon' or something, which doesn't mean much if the elite are not there.

So, biological female child plays sport with other biological female children? Is that the story?

nauticant · 02/04/2019 16:59

There might be a story about whether the girl has been taking testosterone. I get the feeling that they may not have but news stories about this issue are often vague and sometimes deliberately misleading.

ClingFilmApplications · 02/04/2019 17:31

So transgirls get to join the girls' teams and transboys get to stay on the girls' teams. Wow. The sporting issue just got even worse...

Ivy League swimmer. At a huge disadvantage for choosing to swim with the Harvard mens team.

I respect Bailar enormously, they are being true to themselves and competing against men, which is admirable. Good luck to them.

I get to contribute to the world in a lot of different ways that are not gold medals.

That’s a quote from Bailar in the article where he recognises that he (NB his preferred pronoun, if skimming through thread) does less well on the men’s team as a trans man. That is a fantastic attitude, as happydappy & needmoresleep point out. No brick throwing. Proving himself better role model.
