More sports madness

Another achievement stolen by a male. But interesting seeing the responses. This has almost zero support, the tweet has 10 likes compared to hundreds for Kelly Holmes' objection underneath. How is this happening when nobody wants it to and nobody thinks it's right or fair?

Good on Dame Kelly, putting herself out there again. It’s in hurdles too. Hurdles for women are 11 inches lower than those of men at top level. They are spaced differently too. Massively advantageous to be a male in those scenarios. Completely, utterly mad, only redeemed by the outcry in the comments.

Popchyk · 01/04/2019 10:13

Kelly is sounding rather irritated.

"Ridiculous. All for rights, but when it comes to women’s rights this is pure and simply taking then away! Are you seriously thinking this is fair? and giving athlete of the year?! Have none of you got wives or daughters who say unfair! Wow someone has seriously lost the plot".

And yes all the other comments are supportive of Kelly.

The athlete is clearly trying to hide an adam's apple with a neck band.

And, oh, this person competed as a man last year. And didn't win.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 01/04/2019 10:22

I am so grateful to Dame Kelly for being so vocal. Look at all the other comments too!

littlbrowndog · 01/04/2019 10:44

Why are these guys competing in women’s races.

Totally bonkers. Have they no shame

It's sanctioned cheating. They need to win at all costs and the sporting authorities think so little of women's sport, and women generally that they allow it to happen.

Popchyk · 01/04/2019 11:17

I don't think that the authorities have allowed it to happen.

I think that they have ensured that it happens. They have made rule changes to support their decision.

The authorities are male-dominated organisations who have dealt with the transgender issue by ensuring that elite male sport is entirely untouched. Their way of dealing with the transgender issue is to ensure that only women and girls are systemically disadvantaged, so they deliberately created additional opportunities for sub-elite males in the women's category. Win/win as they see it. Positive outcomes for more males are guaranteed, which is the way it should be of course in their eyes.

They haven't even considered the impacts on women and girls.

Because they're only women and girls, not real people like men and boys.

And it is right and proper that women should always give up their seats at the table for men. Modern-day gender chivalry. Women always have to make way for men. No debate. If you even ask a question then you are a bigot.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 01/04/2019 11:23

Not just in sport but lots of other areas too - prisons being another notable example.

teawamutu · 01/04/2019 12:22

I wish I could think that women and girls even figure in those decisions. I don't think it's deliberate so much as prioritising males and not even THINKING about females.

SecondRow · 01/04/2019 12:32

Well here's the results of the Women 200 Meter Dash at that event:
results.deltatiming.com/tf/2019-bobby-lane-invitational/190322F003

(By the way the organizers have a column headed "Sex" in the list of events...)

So well done to Taylor Monae Jobodwana, Vanessa Ugorji and April Pena.

And here's the results of the Women 100 Meter Hurdles:

Congratulations to Safiya John, Arjai Johnson and Alexus Henry.

SecondRow · 01/04/2019 12:40

So just browsing Twitter and it turns out Taylor Monae J.'s husband is a blue-tick South African Olympian, who tweeted this after that event:
twitter.com/_ambitious_jay/status/1109550394542358528

...to barely any response.

His (the husband - Anaso Jobodwana -) personal best in the 200 m is 19.87 seconds - how mad must they both be that CeCe Telfer with a time of 24.30 is racing against his wife. It's ridiculous.

andyoldlabour · 01/04/2019 16:52

SecondRow

Here is T M Jobodwana winning a race - against other women in Durban.

FermatsTheorem · 01/04/2019 18:03

Thanks for that clip, andy. What a beautiful runner Taylor Monae Jobodwana is. A delight to watch. And how crap for her to have been cheated out of the first place she deserved.

More Guardian codswallop:

www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2019/apr/01/sports-transgender-debate-compromise-not-conflict

Why why why should women have to compete against compromised males?

andyoldlabour · 01/04/2019 22:15

"More Guardian codswallop:"

Fuckoff Joanna Harper, you are just a modern snakeoil salesperson.
This is the person responsible for the rise of McKinnon.
The Guardian used to be regarded as a balanced news source, they now accept articles from anyone who helps push their "woke" agenda".

rosablue · 02/04/2019 00:20

Hmmm. If only that article was an April Fools Day offering!

ErrolTheDragon · 02/04/2019 00:51

Why why why should women have to compete against compromised males?

Males who are compromised compared to other males, in other ways, have a route to fair competition via the Paralympic movement. That's the model which everything in Harper's piece indicates is the appropriate one, if we're talking about fair sports not 'validation'.
