Local radio station has this article. While it makes me twitch in general, I am really uncomfortable with how U18s are signposted to mermaids.

Wine has been consumed, and I never post on SM once I've had wine. Please could you intelligent people help me craft an email explaining why mermaids are not good?

Iliza shlesinger has a hilarious sketch on why being a mermaid would be terrible. She has a netflix special called confirmed kills and it's in there.

If you google her the transcript is online. It would make for some fun inspiration Grin Here's a snippet:

"You can’t stop swimming, because if you do, something will try to eat you, fuck you or kill you, okay? It’s not dissimilar to being a woman in a downtown area. So just swimming, swimming. Now, you’re swimming all day, you’re probably pretty hungry, right? How are you gonna catch food? Remember, you’re half-human. We don’t have animal-catching accoutrements, like claws and tentacles and lasers."

@OP. I would keep it short and simple.

The key point is that mermaids don't follow NHS guidance for treatment of GD which leads to 80% of children referred to mermaids going on to cross sex hormones and sterilisation. When NHS route is followed only 20% require hormonal treatment.

If you can find them, there are some good quotes from specialists critical of the mermaids affirmative approach. There was a court case in which the judge criticised mermaids for encouraging a child abuser. That quote would be good.

I would not bother with the other issues about sex stereotypes- you just want them to drop the link.

I would put a generic version of you letter here for others if possible.

If you can, do reference the court case where a judge banned from being in contact with a child and their promotion of Dr Webberley who has been fined (and struck off the GMC?). These are facts so cannot he disputed.

The personal actions of SG might be difficult to include if you are talking about the organisation as a whole but you could show horn in consent and how can a child give consent when their brains are not mature enough to understand the consequences of such a decisions (fertility, sexual performance and sexual pleasure).

This is an excellent thread from MRkh outlining the issues with Mermaids.

Affirmation and the recommendation for puberty-blockers for children is not the only strategy, other more responsible and experienced medics in the field prefer a "watch and wait" process. Have a look at the "TransgenderTrend" website for information about this:

www.transgendertrend.com/

Puberty-blocking drugs were never developed for the use they are being prescribed for now: they are cancer-drugs for men suffering from prostate cancer (Lupron). The long-term effects of their use by children is unknown. What is known is that the effects of women suffering endometriosis having been prescribed them was catastrophic. If that doesn't frighten you, nothing will!

although it's mostly behind a paywall, the first paragraph of this Times article is illuminating

Many thanks, I'll begin putting something together. I suspect it's lazy journalism rather than wokeness. They're usually more responsible in their reporting.

The NHS have removed Mermaids as a source of information from the Gender Dysphoria page of their website.
