An even for Time subscribers: "Women as one – celebrating the power of female solidarity"

Sounds good, I thought! Women for women, brilliant. Then I read on...

"Join us [to] celebrate the power of female solidarity. You will hear from an inspirational panel, hosted by The Sunday Times Style Beauty Director, Sarah Jossel, who will share their own stories about the importance and power of supporting one another.

Joining Sarah on the panel will be:

Lauren Mahon, presenter, writer, influencer, charity campaigner and broadcaster behind the award-winning number one BBC 5Live podcast You Me & The Big C. Following her cancer diagnosis, Lauren has built a highly successful online platform and fundraising community, Girl vs Cancer, raising significant amounts of money that go directly to help fellow cancer sufferers.

Charlie Craggs, an award-winning trans activist and author, best known for her campaign Nail Transphobia, raising visibility and pushing for awareness of transgender issues. Charlie is the author of To My Trans Sisters an inspirational book of letters by successful trans women, sharing the lessons they learnt on their journeys to womanhood.

Further panellists will be announced shortly."

An event - not an even!

Ugh. No thanks. An evening of being told how to be a woman by people who aren’t. And wrote a book reminding us all to be nice. Hmm

Yes, that is disappointing.
A fing transactivist on a panel about "female solidarity
It's a fing insult. Female. Solidarity. My. Arise.

DpWm · 31/03/2019 20:47

Arise!
Arse obvs.

The host is the beauty editor. This is a sparkly "let's talk about shoes and makeup!" event so I've no issues with transwomen being prominent, they seem awfully keen on wearing shitloads of makeup. Solidarity is a laugh though, makes it sound like it was going to be a political or feminist event but then it isn't. Poor marketing.

Lauren Mahon has breast cancer. Female boobs not male moobs. If it gets into health concerns for women Charlie would be best placed keeping quiet.

rightreckoner · 31/03/2019 21:11

I wonder if the TRA would like to talk to Lauren about renaming it chest cancer. We must nail transphobia after all and breast are presumably as trans exclusionary as cervixes and vaginas.

MenuPlant · 31/03/2019 21:14

Men can get breast cancer but when they do its still called breast cancer.

Maybe since the Times has published a lot of important serious news stories that were GC (because genderism and reality are enemies) they feel like they have to bring some "balance" into it in via the fluff sections of fashion and sport?

I wonder who's bringing the pressure though if that's how it is... TRAs will never buy the Times anyway, and I imagine the core audience of the Times is pretty solidly GC.

The Times need to cover both 'sides' if it is to have any credibility. Likewise The Guardian - but it doesn't - and hence why it has lost credibility.
