At work. I've told my boss I'll probably fail and my reasons why. She was pretty good about it and interested when I explained my views. But I have to pass. It's mandatory. I wonder if it's going to give me a pronouns test?

OP posts:
Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 02/04/2019 14:12

really concerned about this.

HolyFuckA · 02/04/2019 20:41

Sounds like a laugh, Holy, but I worry you’d out yourself (timing plus questions would probably be enough for somebody with too much time on their hands to put two and two together).

I hear you. No live stream but I'll report back. Had a rant at my colleagues. Generated some more interesting discussions, they're still in the disbelief state mainly. But the scales are falling.

Hang on... Was that Facebook page someone linked up thread genuine or was it a joke? I honestly can't tell

goes back into lurking mode

DrG · 02/04/2019 20:51

Just fill it in honestly I reckon, answering what you believe to be the correct answers not what they’ve told you to believe to be the correct answers.

HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 19:04

Eesh. This is worse than I thought. Gender reassignment is a protected characteristic at whatever stage of transition and I must not complain about a man being in the ladies. Really struggling.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 08/04/2019 19:06

Is it multi choice? You'll be able to get a couple of questions wrong and still pass. Pick the two most egregious ones that you really baulk at and answer them "wrong" correctly

Ereshkigal · 08/04/2019 19:07

Are you going to live blog it here as you mentioned?

ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2019 19:09

Gender reassignment is a protected characteristic at whatever stage of transition

But sex is a protected characteristic too.

HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 19:27

Decided against live blog as don't want to provoke those with too much time...

Multiple choice but it's making me cross. Such bollocks and I'm not even a quarter way through.

I got the times today- May scan it in and send it to HR.

OP posts:
HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 19:36

Now I'm being taught about being cisgender...

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2019 19:42

If it doesn't cover genderfree people who are neither cis nor trans you should complain about their poor coverage of diversity.

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 08/04/2019 19:49

Sounds painful!

EweSurname · 08/04/2019 19:53

Perhaps after the training you can tell hr that the training made you realise you are not cis as you don’t have a gender identity?

HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 19:54

It was fucking awful. A full on advert for stonewall and mermaids (links to their sites). Comments about suicide rates and how supportive parents get kids on blockers. There's no law on toilets so deal with it. I can't do the evaluation I'm too fucking angry.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2019 19:58

You really need to show them today's Times.
Thanks

Snowy111 · 08/04/2019 20:05

isn’t the course just about ticking boxes? Aren’t the trainers/HR just ticking boxes? What’s the point in having a go at them?

HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 20:11

This training was very different. All others have quizzes. This one didn't- just statements telling the user 'how best to think'. Stats on how happy people are when they've transitioned and how we cis people should keep our thoughts in check. Not once have I ever done 'training' like this, it was literally like an advert.

OP posts:
HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 20:17

Sorry, should clarify- usually you have test questions throughout which don't count, then a quiz at the end which you have to pass. This had neither in the trans section, which was part of two sets of training. And twice the length of the other. Really really odd.

FermatsTheorem · 08/04/2019 20:22

(Hands Holy a quadruple gin).

thenightsky · 08/04/2019 20:48

Ah... I knew it. Didn't I say so earlier down the thread? You will not be allowed to fail this OP.

[cynical NHS worker]

HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 20:57

I failed my health and safety one 🤣 eventually passed (had to know the difference between convection and radiation amongst other things! Google was my friend as I evidently didn't pay enough attention to the previous slides)

I just find it strange the way that this was set out as it was. It was standalone, there are no questions because there are no different answers to what you have been given...indoctrination...sinister. What worries me is this training is for all staff, across all departments, the ramifications for children under the care of those who have had this training is worrying. I'm still wound up.

We have affiliations with groups mentioned in the times article, I think the people who are in charge of maintaining these should be aware of what is being reported.

Gin...more gin...cheers fermats

Gender reassignment is a protected characteristic at whatever stage of transition and I must not complain about a man being in the ladies.

You might want to show your HR Dept this letter from lawyers:

forwomen.scot/30/03/2019/tie-letter-legal-response/

"The Equality Act 2010 provides trans people with the important and necessary protection from discrimination on the basis of gender re-assignment. This is not the same as a general right of access to single sex spaces and services in all circumstances. It is established in case law that the comparator for a transgender person claiming discrimination in relation to gender re-assignment is not the sex which they are seeking transition to but that which they are seeking transition from. There are a number of exemptions for single sex spaces and services, for example sports (section 195) and communal accommodation, such as youth hostels or other shared sleeping and sanitary accommodation (Schedule 23 paragraph 3), which can be invoked for biological women only. These exemptions are equally important and necessary, for many different reasons, such as enabling women to compete safely in contact sports or to use shared sleeping accommodation where otherwise they might be unable (for example due to their religious or cultural background or past trauma)."

JackyHolyoake · 08/04/2019 21:21

It sounds like that online training misinforms about the Equality Act 2010.

HolyFuckA · 08/04/2019 21:33

Thanks Jacky, duly noted. The difficulty that I have is around whether I fill in the feedback saying nothing or whether I challenge. If I challenge, I don't know what kind of a response I would get and whether I could put myself in a precarious position, which I really don't want.

Hey Holy,

Just to give you a bit of hope...

I work in the woke HE sector. As well as the mandatory equality and diversity eTraining, HR informed us that a separate trans eTraining module was would also be compulsory.

A couple of weeks ago the trans training disappeared without trace. I can only presume that GC colleagues had complained about it. Why have trans training and eg not specific disability discrimination training?

I have no problem with training that talks about respect for all. I do take issue when one protected characteristic is elevated beyond the others.

I would also have given robust feedback if the training had been of the non-questioning, right-think type that you were subjected to. I never got round to looking at it while it was online but I have strong suspicions that is exactly what it was.
