The irony of a male asking a woman to justify why 'cis' is offensive

And then try to mansplain why it can't possibly be

twitter.com/Brandon_Bahret/status/1111744357940510722?s=19

Can a man ever understand why we feel so strongly about being rightly named 'woman'? I don't think they can because they haven't had the same battle for identity that we have.

I actually really struggle to put into words why I dislike cis so much. It's visceral. But us shunning cis and telling people we find it offensive isn't enough apparently.

Yes, totally agree.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/03/2019 09:02

'Cis' means you believe in the core of gender ideology: that whether you're male or female isn't determined by your body, but by inner feelings and attitudes. It's clearly nonsense and likely to cause all kinds of problems (like male-bodied people in women's sport, for instance).

RedToothBrush · 30/03/2019 09:07

Cis means 2nd class person who is lower in status to biological males.

This is why cis is not used to describe men.

That's why Rachel McKinnons rant was "you are terfs, you are transphobes, you are cis"

They were asserting their superiority and making a point that woman were not equal. Women who say they are allies and are happy to call themselves cis should take note of McKinnons revealing outburst

That's why the accusation of cheat hurts most. McKinnon believes that asserting their dominance is legitimate. That's it pure and simple. They think they are a better class of person who is superior and should be rewarded for and is entitled to their superiority.

Cheat cuts through that most

Also see McKinnons recent comments on toilets.

McKinnon thinks they should have more rights and entitlement to toilets and other facilities than other people do. Certainly more than minority religious groups who culturally will be forced out of certain activities and places completely having the nerve to call them bigoted in the process rather than recognising the very real barriers those people have.

McKinnon is an over privileged white supremacist. And certainly does not have the interest of any woman at heart. Not unless they are 'woman supremacists'.

[Soz, bit more...]

whether you're male or female isn't determined by your body

This is why there's no one word for biological woman or man, just 'cis woman' and 'cis man'. It's because according to the ideology, the body is irrelevant to the fact of someone being male or female.

A cis woman is a person who was 'assigned female at birth' and has an inner feeling and attitude that matches being female, and is therefore female.

A trans woman is a person who was 'assigned male at birth' but has an inner feeling and attitude that matches being female, and is therefore female.

It's nonsense. 'Cis' is nonsense.

bigKiteFlying · 30/03/2019 09:10

Because use of 'cis' makes us a subset of our own sex -

This. It's othering and lessening.

In UK in the 2011 census was 63 million, of whom 31 million were male and 32 million female.

There’s one million more women than men in UK but we can’t have our own equivalent word to men for our sex.

Nuffaluff · 30/03/2019 09:14

That's why Rachel McKinnons rant was "you are terfs, you are transphobes, you are cis"

Yes, that’s very telling. ‘Cis’ is an insult.
Women who accept that term in their happy docility are colluding in their own oppression.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/03/2019 10:05

As I said on another thread, 'cis' is used to simultaneously convey a supposed 'privilege' and utter inferiority.

That's a hell of a trick, but we're not having it. No.

nettie434 · 30/03/2019 10:53

Definitely FermatsTheorem Ereshkigal. The "comedian's" bemused persistence is what makes it perfect.

Had not seen the tweet in which cis is added onto terf and transphobe before. Gives the lie to the assertion that cis is a neutral term for people of any gender who identify with the sex into which they were born.

Antibles · 30/03/2019 11:14

'Cis' is offensive to our intelligence and to the truth. It's forcing us to talk as if there are two kinds of women - biological female ones and biological male ones. Which of course is utter crap.

Woman means adult human female.

BickerinBrattle · 30/03/2019 11:22

It's a sneaky way of redefining the Set "Women" so that it contains two subsets "Cis" and "Trans" and thereby including the subset "Trans" in all laws that reference "Women" by semantic sleight of hand rather than by actual legislative change.

HorsewithnoBackstop · 30/03/2019 11:23

The men in my world fall into two groups:

Never heard of the word cis.

Have heard of it and hate it/think it's stupid.

I love that clip of JH-B. “I won’t have that BBC claptrap on my show” fantastic!
