Sexist autocorrect test replies please.

As I type, normally, on my iPad, the word Male will automatically correct to be capitalised, but female won't!

Could i ask for replies with both the words 'Male' and 'female' in them? Obviously don't start a sentence with them. I want to see if it's just my own treacherous sexist tablet, or a bigger thing.

Well if I write male and female they do not become capitalised. Perhaps you write Male a lot and it has learned to correct to that.

It annoys me more that autocorrect doesn't recognise god as a proper noun. You don't have to be religious to believe God should be capitalised as I was taught a long time ago. Whether or not God is male.

It's only a proper noun when referring to the Christian deity. It's not a proper noun when being used to mean deity in general eg if you were referring to the Hindu god Vishnu. The assumption that god should always be capitalised does indeed seem like something that would have been taught a long time ago.

The capital of the Maldives is "Malé" not "Male".

Dictionaries like those used by phones can recognise accents, so it shouldn't be capitalized "Male" in the Maldivian context as that is not the actual name. That said my phone doesn't recognise "malé" as a word, but "Malé" is fine if I deliberately capitalize the M.

FWIW, my iphone does not capitalise a male/man/female/woman at all (unless at the start of a sentence, obviously)

Let's see... Malé - my iPad auto capped that, which is fine, but malê or malè or malë (random wrong accents) aren't recognised. So it should be able to tell the difference and not sodding well capitalise Male .

The other day on The Archers thread, mine highhandedly changed Usha to Aisha. I'd have though it should have a general rule not to autocorrect anything the user has capitalised, given that it can't have a complete dictionary of names.

Per eg transwoman you have to press on the version of whatever word in "quotes" in the left suggested box for an iPhone to learn it (hence still writing ducking an awful lot).

Interestingly my phone just autocorrected 'hence' to 'gender' and could clearly have a GI debate without me and make more sense than most TRAS. Might set my phone up with its own autocorrect twitter account. Current debate as follows.

Mary is a transwoman - transwoman typed with no corrective gap interference so I guess I must have done it enough times to have adequately ‘trained’ the predictive function on my iPad.

Mine adds the insulting gap in trans woman, it needs to check its thinking.
