Can't find anything in the mainstream media so details are a little sketchy, but:

twitter.com/LOS_Fisher/status/1109047032436666369

From further down the thread Lucy Fisher says "Passing the course at IBSBrecon paves the way to command 8 infantry soldiers.

Of course infantry have been commanded on the frontline by women (e.g. forward observation officers / fire support team officers) for eons, but not - until now - from within the infantry itself"

Well done Ms Soldier!

I'm sorry but I have to ask...are they a woman of the adult human female variety?

teawamutu · 22/03/2019 14:39

Yes, brave and stunning woman or boring old mk1 cunty kind?

TowelNumber42 · 22/03/2019 14:48

It is sad to say I thought the same way.

If she's a bio woman, I hope suspicion doesn't take the shine off her amazing performance.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/03/2019 14:51

Am I the only one who thought with disbelief this was going to be about Melainer Trump?

OvaHere · 22/03/2019 14:58

Yes sadly that was my first thought as it is with any article like this now.

Yambabe · 22/03/2019 15:47

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/female-soldier-to-command-infantry-troops-having-passed-brecon-course/ar-BBV6fsR?li=AA59G2

All info available points to her being an actual woman.

Fantastic! Good for her. What a woman!

Ifonlyus · 22/03/2019 17:54

Good for her. Also, what a wonderful set of photos of women during ww2 embedded in that link above.

ixqik · 22/03/2019 20:00

She has passed the SAS course which takes its recruits from the Army.

Love the last quote which says that she needs to know that she has completed the same demanding requirements as men and that she isn’t a token.

pombear · 22/03/2019 20:52

This is all so confusing though, isn't it. What is a woman?

In Sept 2016 there was this headline:
news.sky.com/story/transgender-soldier-becomes-first-woman-on-frontline-of-british-army-10581080

This article was particularly confusing:
graziadaily.co.uk/life/real-life/transgender-soldier-chloe-allen-first-serve-frontline/
Transgender guardsman Chloe Allen is the first female soldier to serve on the British Army’s frontline. Allen, who serves with the Scots Guards, will be the first woman in history trained to fight in close hand combat with the enemy.

The 24-year-old Cumbrian began dressing in her mother’s clothes at aged eight. She joined the Scots Guards four years ago, when she was known as Ben. Since last August, she has begun the transition process: beginning hormone therapy and changing her name.

in July of this year, former Prime Minister David Cameron approved a recommendation by the head of the Army to allow women to serve in frontline combat roles. Due to Chloe's unique situation, she will be the first woman fully trained to fight in hand-to-hand combat. Eh?

And then in 2017: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/13/first-female-british-army-officer-commissioned-royal-tank-regiment/

But then there was this in 2018:
metro.co.uk/2018/05/28/britains-first-female-infantry-recruit-quits-after-two-weeks-7582970/

Who can tell what we're actually talking about anymore, what with all this gaslighting as to what a woman/female is?

pombear · 22/03/2019 20:57

I'd forgotten Chloe, Chloe was one of my 'rabbit-hole' moments, can't believe it's been that long.

Clock the poor newsreader's misgendering at 10 seconds in!

RepealTheGRA · 22/03/2019 21:17

My first thought too was what sort of woman. Piers tweeted about it, I assume he thought she was an actual woman?

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 22/03/2019 21:46

I'll wait to give congratulations until I know if the person in question is a woman or a transwoman.

Smotheroffive · 22/03/2019 21:51

Yeah, I don't buy it. name withheld for security reasons bollox.

What a crazy world where mainstream papers call men, women.

Smotheroffive · 22/03/2019 21:53

Chloe's a woman but actually a man that's just started taking exogenous female hormones.

CaptainMarvelBunting · 22/03/2019 22:07

I am so cheesed off that I can't now see a headline about a female achievement and not just be impressed and pleased. It's really unpleasant.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 23/03/2019 07:24

Chloe is not a woman - Chloe is a transwoman. Big difference.

nauticant · 23/03/2019 10:19

I will use this thread to shamelessly plug one of the best books ever written about women and war:

www.penguin.co.uk/books/295/295606/the-unwomanly-face-of-war/9780141983530.html

It is an astonishing read full of moments that cause chills to run down the spine. It is women giving their own accounts of their very diverse experiences at war and it is not gratuitous. It is an extraordinary book.

TowelNumber42 · 23/03/2019 11:17

Ordered! Thanks nauticant

donajimena · 23/03/2019 14:30

Its interesting that she's the first female to complete the course. Of course there are no physical differences between men and women are there? (sarcastic reference re: womens sport)

nauticant · 23/03/2019 16:22

It's uncompromising stuff TowelNumber42 but I've never read anything else like it.

As far as the thread goes I'm quietly optimistic that the person who has passed the Army commander course is actually a woman.
