On winning the Grand Slam this weekend. What a fantastic achievement.

Shame on the BBC for their extensive coverage of the Welsh Men's team's Grand Slam win on this evening's news and not a single mention of the Women's result.

Local news here had the Women's on, and the fact that they got no bonuses which the men get.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/03/2019 18:56

Radio 5 talked about both results, to be fair to them.

Littleoakhorn · 18/03/2019 18:58

Hooray! Well done England!

Scatobrain · 18/03/2019 19:07

Are the teams all women, so far?

bsc · 18/03/2019 19:10

What a score! Amazing for them- they must be on an absolute high.

AnnaBegins · 18/03/2019 19:13

There was so little coverage that I wasn't aware our tickets for the men's game covered the women's game too - we had dinner plans but I was gutted not to be able to stay and watch! Really think this should be publicised more.

sandandc · 18/03/2019 19:17

Congrats!
Well done ladies
Agreed with pp about needing to be advertised better.

Embonkment · 18/03/2019 19:21

I find the women’s games are often extremely one sided, hence the 60, 70, 80 points difference in matches. THey just aren’t enjoyable to watch sadly. Until the quality of the matches and competitions improves there’s little interest, so the matches won’t get the mainstream publicity they need for the sport to grow..

Bowchicawowow · 18/03/2019 19:30

Surely the women’s achievements should still be celebrated? In Radio 2 this morning the sports reporter spoke at length about the men’s team and how they are struggling with confidence at the moment. He then gave a fleeting comment about the women’s result. It’s so bloody unfair.

My dad always complained about womens football, tennis, rugby etc not being very good

He really enjoys watching all of them when he gets the chance now and is quite disappointed with the lack of coverage

lovinglifexo · 18/03/2019 19:33

It should do definitely get more coverage but unfortunately female rugby along with female football is just not as interesting.

This doesn’t mean it can’t be - female tennis, athletics for example

BertrandRussell · 18/03/2019 19:37

The women’s team didn’t get a bonua for winning, and the woman referee didn’t get paid at all.

BertrandRussell · 18/03/2019 19:37

Bonus, even.

MrsPnut · 18/03/2019 19:38

We went to watch the England France match and it was every bit as exciting as any of the mens matches we've been to.

I think it was a good idea for the women's home matches to be played at grounds around the country to ensure that plenty of young women and girls could go and watch. I know that all of the girls rugby teams in our area went to watch this match and came away really excited.

Bowchicawowow · 18/03/2019 19:44

I don’t know how the RFU can possibly justify not paying the women bonuses.

Wow! Well done England!!

jeaux90 · 18/03/2019 19:57

Radio 4 had an interview with one of the women's team this morning.

Bowchicawowow · 18/03/2019 20:00

Whilst there is the odd mention and interview the coverage is utterly pitiful.

I find the women’s games are often extremely one sided

I didn’t watch the six nations, but have watched plenty of women’s rugby ( international ) when I can blimin get to see it, and it is different for sure, most notably in the scrums, but I find several aspects are more high quality. Because women can’t rely as much on their sheer brute strength, they tend to be more skilled, better body control and often a much faster paced game, which this kiwi likes! The tackles aren’t as hard so they’re not always as effective, less injuries, but that will mean higher scores a lot of the time because they can break the tackles more often. For me, the main differences are physical intensity and aggression, less stupid behaviour and ‘niggle’ as they call it.

I can’t even buy a god damn black ferns supporters jersey ffs Adidas don’t make them, as NZ rugby’s official provider that is bullshit. Yes I did complain to NZ Rugby and they said it’s Adidas’ fault, and they told me 6 months ago to ‘watch this space’.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 18/03/2019 20:27

Oh and congratulations England Women’s Rugby! Considering women don’t learn it young like the men, they’re doing bloody good!
