Does anyone recall the Army advert

It was a TV ad some years ago encouraging the recruitment of women??
It was set in a war torn place with a woman civilian hiding in her home, the voice over was something along the lines of “They killed her her husband, beat and raped her, the last thing she wants to see is another man” cue a female soldier coming to her aid. It was quite powerful.

I’ve been having a discussion with a friend who can’t see an issue with TW in women’s shelters and crisis centres Hmm and this ad just sums up the point, can anyone remember it?

I remember that! It's shot through the eyes of the soldier as they see the woman and then switches to the view of the women with the words "not all soldiers are men" and it's a female soldier putting a blanket on her.

Yes! That’s the bugger! I’m combing YouTube I just think it really hammers the point ( which shouldn’t have to be bloody hammered!)

I remember it!

That’s a really good video to explain the point. Sadly I don’t think the army would use that same video now.

Lymphy · 18/03/2019 16:14

ILoveMaxiBondi I agree not these days, which is a shame as it was so powerful

I thought that was a good advert. No matter how much certain people claim otherwise, women recognise women.

I await the Captain Hannah redux in which the unfortunate civilian is scolded for her transphobia.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 18/03/2019 17:20

Very powerful. I wonder how the TRAs would make this about them?

“Not all soliders have penises and if they do they can still be women, you war ravaged bigot”

Lymphy · 18/03/2019 17:29

you war ravaged bigot Grin

Though I suspect in a remake of said advert, they’d play the victim

I’ve just watched the ad linked above and it’s made me cry. I do remember it from the time and it’s incredibly powerful. And progressive - does anyone know the year?

Truly, if your identity agenda prevents you from fully empathising with the vulnerability of women and children in war zones, or anywhere else for that matter, you need to sort your shit out.

Lymphy · 18/03/2019 18:20

When I was trawling YouTube it said 1998 although this seems earlier than I recall, I remember being hit by it as a teenager despite giving zero shits about anything. It really does cement the point.

Ooh that made me quite teary

Howling at they'd play the victim

WokerThanWoke · 18/03/2019 19:45

It’s perhaps also more of an accurate reflection of being in the army - walking into awful situations and trying to help/liaise with local people - than some of the adverts.

Whatisthisfuckery · 18/03/2019 19:48

It’d probably be the tw soldier traumatised because the raped woman misgendered them, and the woman would have to be sent for re-education, naturally. The caption would read:

Transwomen are women, and not all transwomen are rapists.’

RepealTheGRA · 18/03/2019 20:18

Oooh yes I remember this! I think 98 is right.

Do you watch SWAT? Similar point has been made in that, but more subtly.

Lymphy · 18/03/2019 23:11

No not seen that one I’ll have a look

Lymphy It’s an American program. There’s a swat team that contains one woman. There are scenes in it (subtly done) where the traumatised victim responds to the women on the team, but is as scared of the men as she was the original attackers.
