US accused of trying to dilute global agreements on women's rights

The enemy of my enemy is my friend? The Trump administration is replacing "gender jargon" with women's rights. (while quietly backing out of the Beijing accord, and trampling abortion rights around the world)

www.theguardian.com/global-development/2019/mar/18/us-accused-of-trying-to-dilute-international-agreements-un-commission-status-of-women

"In a speech to CSW on Friday, Cherith Norman Chalet, US ambassador for UN management and reform, said “we are not about gender jargon. Today, here at the Commission on the Status of Women, we are about women. Women and girls. The life of all women and girls”. She pointed to the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative, which aims to improve the economic opportunities of 50 million women, and the WomenConnect Challenge to close the digital divide for women, as evidence of the US’s commitment to supporting women."

I am certain that I profoundly disagree with them on a huge range of issues - not least abortion.

But, by getting rid of gender and focusing on women and girls they are also clarifying that these right are sex based (albeit dwindling!) rather than based on gender feelz.

Or am I reading it wrong?

god that article is a mess. how have we got to the point where the Guardian - the fucking Guardian - accepts that gender is innate and edifying? It's like the 70s never happened for them, the sexist pricks.

The US is trying to reduce women s rights by insisting that the rights apply to women and girls.? Perhaps universities and schools should teach logical reasoning?

I came to this article full of concern only to find the 'dilution' referred to was the restricting of women's rights to, um, women and girls.

That sounds fair to me. Making it clear rights need to be sex-based not based on gender feelz.

I'm not sure what it really means, other than that the Trump administration is happy to reduce life-chances for trans people. If they can dress it up as a (re)focus on girls and women, they will. I'm sure only a small part of the situation made it into this article. Someone with a better understanding of the field might be able to interpret.
