TRAs harass young journalist, have story re-written, after reporting on Zuby's deadlift

www.outsports.com/2019/3/15/18266853/illinois-tv-station-wqad-fixes-transphobic-story

"Zuby claimed to have “identified as a woman” during his deadlift stunt. But to transgender, gender non-conforming people and allies, this was an insult and a mockery of this marginalized group’s battle for acceptance.

That didn’t seem to matter to WQAD.com web producer, Brody Wooddell, who until Outsports contacted the station, was known on the station’s official website as “The Effortless Adonis.”

Wooddell made no effort to tell the Zuby story in a balanced fashion, and instead composed a decidedly one-sided post about the tweet and the trans inclusion debate: “Male rapper identifying as female, informally breaks female dead-lift record to prove a point.

In addition to showing the Zuby video, he included “examples” such as a mention of the race run by two trans teens in Connecticut — citing only their victories, not the races they didn’t win — and Fallon Fox’s 2014 bout in which she did what MMA fighters are supposed to do: beat up your opponent. Below, a screengrab from Wooddell’s original story:"

"With the approval of management, WQAD’s website manager worked with the managing editor at Outsports to rewrite the story, and to add content that provided much needed balance and information about the transgender inclusion debate.

The first change is to the headline, which now reads, “Male rapper identifying as female, declares he broke female deadlift record.” That’s not exactly the same as a transgender person declaring how they identify, but at least it’s no longer inaccurate.

Wooddell’s name has been removed from the article, and his bio no longer describes him as WQAD’s “Effortless Adonis.”

The story now says Zuby was “trolling the debate of transgender people competing in athletic events.”

The new article quotes both Outsports as well as Zuby, in his appearance on right-wing demagogue Ben Shapiro’s radio show, as well as trans powerlifter JayCee Cooper. There’s far more information about the Connecticut trans teens and Fallon Fox. Links are provided to both research and the policies of international sporting agencies regarding transgender athletes. Overall WQAD.com now presents a balanced perspective on the inclusion debate. You can read it by clicking here."

So they got a journalist demoted (?) and completely rewrote the article.

Here's the current version: <a class="break-all" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20190316114311/wqad.com/2019/03/11/male-rapper-identifying-as-female-informally-breaks-female-dead-lift-record-to-prove-a-point/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20190316114311/wqad.com/2019/03/11/male-rapper-identifying-as-female-informally-breaks-female-dead-lift-record-to-prove-a-point/

Of course they did.

PeeGreen · 16/03/2019 11:59

Note the additions

"“Just deciding on a whim that Zuby says he’s identifying as a woman, that’s not how it works,” said Dawn Ennis, managing editor of Outsports News, an LGBTQ sports publication."

Why would you even quote that?

Dawn Ennis is apparently a late-transitioning father of 3 lifeafterdawn.com/ who came out as transgender, but not at all on a whim, last year.

The reference to Fallon Fox breaking a woman's skull is changed to read " Dr. Eric Vilain, a medical geneticist and the director for the Institute of Society and Genetics at UCLA reviewed Fox’s medical records and confirmed she “fulfilled all conditions” that required of her competing, according to the New York Times."

A paragraph that read

"two high school sophomores, both transgender females, placed first and second respectively in the 100-meter race causing outrage among biologically female competitors and their families. Both transgender athletes said that the biological females should "work harder" instead of complaining"

was edited to read

"both of the transgender student athletes argued that their competitors should work harder, according to a report by Townhall, a conservative and political opinion website. "

(why is it relevant that the source is conservative, if it's a direct quote from the transgender athletes? Except in order to try to undermine the claim.)

The article adds another source to 'transathlete.com' (sorry what?)

And ends with another direct quote from Dawn Ennis, telling LGBT people they shouldn't like him:

"What Zuby did was disappointing because it mocks the trans experience and I think that Zuby has fans who are LGBT who are not going to want to be his fans,” said Ennis, “and he risks losing both LGBT and allies as fans.”

Wow. Just fucking wow. Rewriting factually correct articles.

zanahoria · 16/03/2019 12:11

“Just deciding on a whim that Zuby says he’s identifying as a woman, that’s not how it works,”

so how does it work?

ImFineThankYouSusan · 16/03/2019 12:51

Ennis likes to rewrite history too.

That blog says they came out as trangender last year.

In this Medium piece they came out as trans in 2012 medium.com/@lifeafterdawn/the-surgeon-who-told-me-to-switch-my-sexual-orientation-76814ad5e37c

And in this they came out in 2013 www.businessinsider.com.au/dawn-ennis-abc-news-producer-comes-out-as-transgender-2013-5?r=US&IR=T

(Ennis blipped on to my radar after seeing a twitter comment where they said they successfully breastfed their eldest son who is 12 Hmm )

Ereshkigal · 16/03/2019 12:58

TBH I'm sure Zuby would laugh his arse off at this floundering and pandering. I'm sure he thought about what fandom he wished to appeal to before he made the video.

theOtherPamAyres · 16/03/2019 13:45

Would Trans Validation Activists (TVAs) go after Zuby?

No, of course, they wouldn't.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/03/2019 13:47

Don’t tend to go after men (oh the assumption, how very dare they) because they don’t hate and look down on men.

R0wantrees · 16/03/2019 13:53

In addition to showing the Zuby video, he included “examples” such as a mention of the race run by two trans teens in Connecticut — citing only their victories, not the races they didn’t win — and Fallon Fox’s 2014 bout in which she did what MMA fighters are supposed to do: beat up your opponent.

Fairplay for Women:

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/03/2019 13:59

DS does martial arts. Nope you are not supposed to hospitalise your opponent.

PeeGreen · 16/03/2019 14:17

Breaking women's skulls is boring, pedestrian - just ask Jane Fae.

DpWm · 16/03/2019 15:32

This is what they do isnt it. Recently Aimee Chanellor demanded a rewrite of an article about the Green Party shit fest, that referred to Chanellor as their male name, even though the article was specifically referring to the time during which Channelor was identifying as male using their male name.

Rewriting history and rewriting facts indeed. Who says this isn't all about control?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/03/2019 15:34

Rewriting history is trying to hide the truth. It’s not like they are in witness protection or hiding from a violent ex husband. At least it’s lying and make believe - at the very worst it is hiding a dirty little secret and possible criminal record. Either way...

PeeGreen · 16/03/2019 16:36

There was nothing wrong with the original article. The journalist didn't call him a cheat.

OP posts:
Floisme · 16/03/2019 16:44

You'd think they would have taken it up with Zuby himself wouldn't you? Yet (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I can't see any sign of them on Zuby's Twitter feed. I cannot for the life of me imagine why.

FemalePersonator · 16/03/2019 19:41

What zanahoria said. So, tell us. How does it work?

Fairenuff · 17/03/2019 10:41

to rewrite the story, and to add content that provided much needed balance and information about the transgender inclusion debate

Wait, so there is a debate now?

What happened to #nodebate?

FemalePersonator · 17/03/2019 10:59

What is there to debate? Humans do not and cannot change sex.
