Of course, remember, we are a foul bear pit for worrying about children like this and pointing out the negative impact on others when someone is inclusively welcomed into what is an affirming space for them.

I'll say it again: if you create a sacred caste of people whose motivations cannot be questioned, you destroy safeguarding. Safeguarding is, by nature, sceptical, because being sceptical is what protects children from harm.

Trans people (or non trans drag queens) are no more sacred than Catholic priests. Moreover, if you have a sacred caste absolving members from safeguarding protocols, then abusers will flock to it for the obvious reasons. Safeguarding protects trans people as much as it protects everyone else who works with children, as well as the children themselves. You want the name of any group of people to become synonymous with child abusers? Take them out of safeguarding protocols.

I have literally no idea what the aim of getting men dressed as sexualised caricatures of women to read to kids is.

The premise behind the UK drag queen kindergarten song time, whatever it was called, was to stop hate speech before it starts.

They were quite upfront that they were going to tackle hate speech in three-year-olds. In a kindly, friendly, sparkly way, obviously.

Correct. Part of my work is visiting primary schools and observing lessons. I'm constantly approached, spoken to and touched (I extricate myself politely but swiftly) by the very youngest children in the schools and classrooms - who have in each case only just met me - and it's made me very aware of how trusting small children are.

Those of you who are parents will already know this; as do predators...

Have any of you seen the YouTube series "Kids Meet"? Most of them are really good - kids meet a deaf person, a magician, a cop. And then there's . Several of the kids start out markedly uncomfortable or "weirded out" as they put it, unlike all the other episodes. I wonder why that might be? But by the end, they're all totally fine with it. It's normal! And anyone can do drag, says the queen; lots of kids do too!
