Students for Reproductive Justice mystified after menstrual products disappear from men's bathrooms

loyolaphoenix.com/2019/03/menstrual-products-in-luc-bathrooms-disappearing-and-tampered-with/

"Every week, Students for Reproductive Justice (SRJ) stocks a number of women’s, men’s and gender neutral bathrooms on campus with menstrual hygiene products only to frequently find the products in the men’s and gender neutral bathrooms strewn out, flushed down the toilet, stuck to the walls and ceilings or gone altogether."

"“It doesn’t matter what bathroom you use or what gender you identify with, if you menstruate you menstruate, and you need those products provided to you,” Al-Salaita, a political science and international studies major, said."

“The women cleaning the bathrooms have told me that although they do appreciate what we’re doing, almost every week they have to clean the men’s bathrooms because the pads and tampons are stuck all over the place or completely destroyed,” Burdsall said.

Erica Ramos, the overnight supervisor at the IC, emailed SRJ early this month and said there were issues with the products being placed in the toilets in the men’s restrooms. Ramos said the products were causing clogs and putting a strain on “housekeeping workers” who have to remove the clogs by hand.

Crikey, 'woke' students causing additional work for those people who will undoubtedly be the lowest paid members of staff. FFS.

PeeGreen · 13/03/2019 19:58

Not only the lowest paid members of staff, but actual women. For some reason no-one feels the need to be inclusive about THEIR pronouns.

Just clarifying that 'Bursdall' is one of the members of Students for Reproductive Justice.

Oh yuk
So men behave like immature boys with sanitary products and women have to unclog the mess. Whatever one thinks of the intentions of the SRj group, that is men being puerile. If they don’t want sanitary products in their bathrooms, they should take it up in an adult manner.

Ha ha great point; imagine they sat the cleaning staff down each term to do a pronoun circle! Or perhaps their cis-ness was evident from the fact they chose low paid cleaning roles in the first place.

OvaHere · 13/03/2019 20:12

Gosh imagine how mature and inclusive those men will be when they discover an actual menstruating individual in the bathroom with them.

It's almost like we group bathrooms by sex for a reason. Confused

weebarra · 13/03/2019 20:12

Or took low paid cleaning jobs out of necessity. Women are of course over-represented in the 5 c's - cleaning, catering, clerical, cashiering and care. Partly because of their lived experience of being female.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/03/2019 20:14

And they are surprised because...? Idiots.

MagicMix · 13/03/2019 20:50

Obviously putting sanitary products in the men's toilets is silly, but I don't blame this group for the childish and selfish actions of the men. How hard would it have been for them to just roll their eyes and ignore the products.

Jesus I wonder why some women don't want to share public toilets with men.

PeeGreen · 13/03/2019 21:12

I think they have some blame if they continue to create work for actual women on behalf of a non-existent group (men that menstruate).

I'm sorry but I find that really funny! I especially love the bit about "think of the poor female cleaners".

Fucking eejits. What did they expect?!? They're the ones that love gender stereotypes so much why are they surprised when men act as they are socialised to do???? Grin

BarbarianMum · 13/03/2019 21:21

I dont see why it is their fault that men are stuffing sanitary products they dont need down the toilet. And I dont buy the "socialised to do this" guff either.

EcclesThePeacock · 13/03/2019 21:32

Presumably if they just kept the stuff in the women's loos, any transman who was still menstruating could come in, get what they needed and take it to the men's or any-sex loo?

And then these doubtless well-meaning people could focus on some of the more serious issues of reproductive justice afflicting the US nowadays - though quite how doing that fits with the 'Jesuit values' of this place I'm not sure.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 13/03/2019 21:38

So the virtue signallers put sanitary items in the bathrooms, men mess around with them and women clean up after them?

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 13/03/2019 21:48

And in tonight's edition of The Young and The Woke, we discover that in addition to providing infantile boys things to play with, they also:
Run the Vagina Monogues (for all genders) and create surveys where intersex is a sexuality.

Actually this gives me the rage a bit really. Women are supposed to budge up and let transwomen into prisons, sports, refugees and women’s scholarship lists, and are not allowed to speak out against it for fear of their jobs, and these men cannot even give a little teensy bit of respect to transmen who might wish to use bathrooms to match their gender. I am sorry, but really?!?

WisdomOfCrowds · 13/03/2019 22:44

This has made me angry in ways I can't even articulate. It's like all of the most degrading bits of this nonsense all rolled into one. Selfish horrible men, thoughtless woke students, and a group of badly paid women cleaning it all up week after week. I honest to god can't believe people are being so blind about this stuff.

BickerinBrattle · 13/03/2019 22:50

Possibly the males aren't solely engaging in juvenile antics.

Perhaps the males are angry at this invasion of their space and are engaged in forms of protest and civil disobedience.

I disagree with making more work for others, but certainly they have a right to feel intruded upon by females and to protest that.

EcclesThePeacock · 13/03/2019 22:58
  • Perhaps the males are angry at this invasion of their space and are engaged in forms of protest and civil disobedience.

Nah. If it was just that, they could take the whole box and put it outside, or somewhere daft like a foyer or the canteen. And... they'd probably actually communicate words, to make it clear it wasn't just silly wasteful vandalism.

KataraJean · 14/03/2019 05:52

Well quite, Eccles.
