This woman is a human rights lawyer who has worked tirelessly for women's rights and defended women who protested wearing the headscarf. It's so horrific what is happening to her.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/03/2019 13:33

Utterly horrifying.

jay55 · 12/03/2019 13:33

Horribly shocking.
What a brave woman she has been. Wishing her every hope for clemency.

MeAgainAgain · 12/03/2019 13:34

That's horrendous

Didiusfalco · 12/03/2019 13:36

Absolutely appalling. I hope the international community are able to apply some pressure on her behalf.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/03/2019 13:36

bastards

i'm not sure what else to say

Lemoncakestrudel · 12/03/2019 13:41

She had no hope if she wasn’t even allowed to attend one of her own trials. Its so shocking what has happened to her. Even if she is let out early, as I do hope, she will still have those terrible wounds from being lashed forever.

Bluestitch · 12/03/2019 13:41

She's been jailed before, she is so immensely brave for continuing her work with a target on her back.

How awful. That poor woman.

PerkingFaintly · 12/03/2019 13:50

Sad Thanks for alerting us, OP.

If anyone's interested, Amnesty are campaigning for her release.

This sample letter is from last week, so I imagine there will be an updated one shortly, now the sentence has been announced

Attitudes seem to be changing in Iran, men have joined the hijab protests.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 12/03/2019 14:08

An outrageous sentence. She's a brave woman.

Justhadathought · 12/03/2019 16:56

Horrendous. Such a courageous woman. She featured in the under-cover movie by banned Iranian film maker( Jafar Pannahi), called 'Taxi Tehran'; in which the film maker drives a taxi through Tehran, picking up various passengers. Good viewing.

McTufty · 12/03/2019 17:10

I feel sick. This is just grotesque.

DaffydownClock · 12/03/2019 17:15

Barbaric bastards.

youllhavehadyourtea · 12/03/2019 17:19

I felt sick when I read it yesterday.

I didn't realise it was her...thank you for posting this, I'm going to watch the film again tonight in her honour, and for the women she fights for too.

StephsCaddy · 12/03/2019 18:10

She’s so brave.

ToeToToe · 12/03/2019 18:13

Oh my god, I can't believe this. I'm horrified Angry The brutality.

Ereshkigal · 12/03/2019 18:37

So incredibly brave. Horrific punishment.

Angryresister · 12/03/2019 18:55

And Britain is still hand in hand with this regime.... If we ever get Penny Moraunt to answer our questions, perhaps she could come up with what the Govt could do to get this woman out.

ChattyLion · 12/03/2019 19:19

Jesus this poor woman. Thank you for posting about her case.

I am pleased to see Amnesty doing good campaigning work on this. This type of case is exactly what they should be leveraging on.

Ereshkigal · 12/03/2019 19:35

Agree Chatty. This kind of thing is what they were set up to do, and what most of the people donating expect them to do. not pushing their own dodgy political agendas.

Angryresister · 12/03/2019 20:13

Agreed Chattyand Ereshkigal good to see Amnesty stepping up.
