Bloke in the Disney store...

I was in the Disney store, gazing longingly at the most gorgeous Captain Marvel hoodie that I simply can't afford. It was a thing of beauty.

Man next to me says "I'm still debating whether to see it."

Me, full of enthusiasm, "Oh, do, it's really good!"

Man replies, "Oh right, I was expecting a boring female and lots of SJW preaching. I think superhero movies need less of this feminist rubbish."

Me, mindful of it being the Disney store, and that loud swears are not the way to go, "Its not that difficult to see women as heroes, too, is it?"

He, eyebrows lifted at a woman actually forming a sentence of reply, "Oh, you're one of them are you?"

Me, sweetly smiling while taking the hoodie off the rail, "Why yes, yes I am."

And I walked away, feeling like I was wearing the damn thing.Grin

Left it on another peg full of them elsewhere, though. I'm not made of fecking money.

What is SJW?

RitaFairclough · 12/03/2019 12:20

My nine-year-old son, who is OBSESSED with Marvel and all things super-hero-related, loved Captain Marvel. In fact he loved it so much he said he thinks all superheroes should be women from now on. (And then he corrected himself and said "but not Spider-Man").

I like that she's clearly going to save the world in Avengers: End Game.

SJW = Social Justice Warrior. Used by conservative and progressive alike - progressives use it as a badge of honour to describe their view of themselves, and conservatives use it in a sneering, disdainful manner. See also snowflake - a negative critique from some, a defiant reclaimed label for others.

Saw it last week, and I enjoyed it. Last two movies I watched had female leads, the other was Alita Battle Angel, which I really liked too.

"Why yes, yes I am."

Isn't it nice to have the actual conversation at the time, rather than angrily in your head two hours later? Grin

Nice one op.

Loads of blokes do this actually, the men in my old job did it all the time. And I was dim and always rose to it, providing much entertainment.

I saw the film at weekend first 30 mins bit slow but then it got going and by end was loving it.

YY to sad men frantically down voting it all over the internet needing to get a life. Its just desperately sad isn't it. One thing isn't exactly centering people like them and they have a hissy fit.

Huge rarity, tbh. I've not been a badass gobby wench since I was a teenager.
