I would object to the recipient being any large, national , well funded charity. There is a very good argument that the funds should go to a local initiative within the community of which the school is a part.

My son's school used to support a local charity providing riding facilities for people with physical disabilities.

I'd ask why they are funding an organisation that has recently appointed someone to an advisory position who knowingly employed a pedophile and has been found by an independent investigation not to understand safeguarding.
How is this in keeping with their requirement to keep children safe?

You could or you could ask why are the funds being given to a huge, well funded charity as opposed to a deserving local charity. Depends on whether you want to make a point or to divert the funds to a better use.

not only is Stonewall well funded but it is corporate funded and I suspect some of those corporations have a vested interest in the medicalization of the trans issue. I wouldn't give to any charity like that it is the big donors who pull the strings.

This issue has taught me to be very vigilant about charities.

apparently the students voted for it....

I don't understand why schools raise money for big charities for non school uniform days. Why can't a non uniform day raise funds for the school.

RND and CIN all donate to these big charities anyway and school kids (parents) are always asked to donate to those too.

Agreed.

OP what were the other options and who and how were they selected?

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 10/03/2019 16:53

I don't know lass, sorry.

I hate the idea of challenging the kids' school(s) as I have so much respect for the teachers....

I'm amazed that Stonewall is a charity. Friends of the Earth isn't able to qualify as one.

Comic Relief fundraising at my niece's school - for Stonewall today.
Stonewall must be laughing. It's a double whammy.

LassOfFyvie · 12/03/2019 13:47

I'm really fed up of the concept of compulsory "donations". I've never given to Children in Need or Comic Relief.

Regardless of any views on Stonewall there are 1000's of charities who have nowhere near their level of funding.

BeersAndBassGuitars · 12/03/2019 13:55

I've had an email from my daughter's school today.

Also supporting Stonewall and CF this week.

I don't think so.

LassOfFyvie · 12/03/2019 14:52

And I would add that given the original marathon dances arose out of expoloiting misery and despair I think Claudia Winkelman's Comic Relief Danceathon is utterly crass.
