And thank you bbc.

BlodwynBludd · 08/03/2019 08:43

That was so refreshing both agreeing that proper science shows that men have an advantage!

nettie434 · 08/03/2019 08:44

Sp? Not so. Bother autocorrect! Also liked the way Prof Brewer brought in International Women’s Day

Melroses · 08/03/2019 08:44

The women's cricketer that was on before was good too.

BarbarianMum · 08/03/2019 08:45

What has it come to though when we are all ecstatic about R4 broadcasting a commonly accepted biological reality? This isnt new science, I learnt this at school.

SlipperyLizard · 08/03/2019 08:45

Just this morning they were “reality checking” something the US ambassador said about food poisoning in the UK vs the US (turns out ambassador was wrong), at the time I wondered when they might do the same for McKinnon’s unfounded claims!

Didn’t hear it all as lost signal, but what I heard was encouraging!

WeirdOne · 08/03/2019 08:45

Also happy dancing in the kitchen. Woohoo.

But also ridiculous that we have had to wait for so long for them to report what is so bloody obvious. And speak to experts. And not interrupt them.

Melroses · 08/03/2019 08:46

That was so refreshing A much needed blast of the fresh air of real life.

It is about time BBCtoday had a bit more of that going on and stopped peddling the nonsense that men are women.

SisterWendyBuckett · 08/03/2019 08:46

Pathetically grateful that the BBC have allowed facts to speak for themselves.

crumpet · 08/03/2019 08:48

3 men discussing the issue. Can you imagine the reaction if it had been Jenni/the women’s hour team discussing with 2 female scientists?

ColeHawlins · 08/03/2019 08:49

Damn, missed it.

So it was just after 8.30 on the Today programme?

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2019 08:49

At last! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Prof Brewer politely refuting Joanna Harper's 'research'. Prof Hughes started by stating that babies are RECOGNISED as male or female at birth and the importance of testosterone in foetal development and puberty.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2019 08:50

Yes, Cole. I'll be listening again. It was SO refreshing!

OrchidInTheSun · 08/03/2019 08:50

This is the other guy: www.medschl.cam.ac.uk/professor-ieuan-hughes-awarded-james-spence-2014-medal/

If you missed it, you can rewind the programme now (until it goes off air) to 8.32am to listen

EweSurname · 08/03/2019 08:51

It struck me that it was three men discussing women's sports too but I'm still agog that the two "opposing" sides (I'm assuming as this is usually the format) agreed on everything, the upshot of which was that the current guidelines are not fair to women.

Ha ha this crossed my mind

littlbrowndog · 08/03/2019 08:53

Oh yeps
Both scientists agreeing tha5 transitioned transgender mtf will retain advantages over women

everythingthelighttouches · 08/03/2019 08:54

I'm pleased they followed up on previous bbc interviews where non-scientists were given a platform to present non-science as fact. Finally! It's not hard to find reasoned biologist academics in the uk. Glad bbc has finally done it!

shggg245 · 08/03/2019 08:55

I also liked the reference to International Womans Day. It was only a 5 minute discussion but it feels like a very big deal. The tide is turning.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/03/2019 08:55

Pathetically grateful there was a female reporter reporting on women's sports in the sport slot just before too.

OrchidInTheSun · 08/03/2019 08:56

"A fair and level playing field for females to excel and compete at their own sport"

Indeed. Sod off McKinnon with your faux science. It's bullshit

FleetsumNJetsum · 08/03/2019 08:56

What has it come to though when we are all ecstatic about R4 broadcasting a commonly accepted biological reality? This isnt new science, I learnt this at school

Exactly, Barbarian. All BBC had to do was bring out the real scientists at the beginning of this discussion, but instead they chose to give RM a platform again and again and again. Not quite cheering the BBC

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2019 08:58

It's obvious Ewe that there are no credible scientists who oppose the science. No doubt BBC researchers would have done their utmost to find them!

So they ended up with two scientists both saying the same thing! Males and females arevsexually dimorphic. The difference starts in utero and continues throughout life. Men have a phsiological advantages due to testosterone and the advantages don't go away if T levels are reduced.

ColeHawlins · 08/03/2019 08:58

Listening now.

So the IOC's own adviser is, essentially, criticising the IOC's policy?

This is fabulous.
