I'm going to:

  • stick up at least 50 FPFW postcards around;
  • put up a good article about Self ID on my RL FB account and interact with friends who respond;
  • have invited lots of women I know to drop in for a coffee any time during the day and I intend to ensure I bring up the subject of self-ID;
  • oh, and I'm sending in a load of sweets for the DDs' classmates.
Interested to hear any other "pledges" so I can copy some of them Grin.

I'm now drunk on International Women's Day. Well, it's Friday - dh and I cracked the wine open at 6.40...

Firstly - I love al you women here and on twitter. And our beautiful sportswomen who have blown this thing wide open. Sharron, Martina, Dame Kelly - love you. You stood up.

But - god the shit that's on twitter. Fuck "intersectional" feminism. You are not feminists. You are not out for women. Feminism does not include penises ffs.

Here's a taste of what I've seen on Twitter on #IWD:

Let's demonise women on International Women's Day.

Transactivists protest against trans people getting their own prison blocks. How awful for them.

A bunch of men whining 'when's International Men's Day?'

It's November 19th, guys. Didn't you notice it last year, or the year before, or the year before that??

The Women's Strike promoting the prostitution of women as work:

I mean ffs. Gah.

Love you all.

Never has an IWD been so depressing though. #WarOnWomen.

I am going to: Do literally nothing... come on ladies! Every day is women day, we should be celebrating our skills and superiority everyday!!! #FuckThePatriachy

ToeToToe · 08/03/2019 21:40

Every day seems to be an assault on women's rights at the moment.

But I applaud the women on here, and everywhere, fighting back Smile

rocketromano · 08/03/2019 21:47

Well I spoke to some people at work, quite tentatively. We spoke about gender stereotypes, trans people in sport, the need for single sex toilets in schools, ‘transing the gay away’, homophobia etc. Everyone was in agreement with what I said. I work for NHS so this is a scary thing to talk about! I’ve never broached it at work before but it came up in conversation and I was pleased how many people were strongly in agreement.

I went on a march Grin

ToeToToe · 08/03/2019 21:55

Richard Herring raised £40k for Refuge last year, by tweeting - this year it's £105k already!

That's amazing.

WisdomOfCrowds · 08/03/2019 22:12

I wish I'd done something as active as you all seem to have. I went to the IWD celebration in my city and signed up with some of the organisations that had stands there. I also bought my children some books on feminism. But I failed woefully to confront (to steal a phrase I saw here a few days ago) "the wokest handmaiden that ever did live" as she lectured me on trans rights/ transphobia (beginning with the phrase "I've never met a trans person, but...") She was telling me all about the hour long facebook argument she'd just had on the subject, and I just didn't have an hour to spend getting yelled at. So I just nodded and grimaced and then hid until she left.

Can someone tell me how to find these postcards you're all sticking up?

Thethingswedoforlove · 08/03/2019 22:18

Toetotoe Richard herring raised £150k last year. He is hoping to beat it this year. Well done for linking to it. He is soooo funny!

ToeToToe · 08/03/2019 22:20

Oh that's so amazing - I was going by his tweet! He's raised 105k so far, and still rising. I just donated Smile

He's done good. Wine

Thethingswedoforlove · 08/03/2019 22:31

I donated much earlier today and have been totally distracted all day! I think he raised an additional £40k or so on the day after Iwd last year which brought the total up so high. That might have been the tweet you are referring to. It’s so amazing!

ToeToToe · 08/03/2019 22:34

I think I misread it. I've been drinking wine Grin You'll have to excuse my posts tonight Grin

UncomfortableSecret · 08/03/2019 22:45

Well ... I went to karate, came home to eat chocolate and drink wine and PMSL at Richard Herring's sterling work yet again. I feel pretty empowered. Grin

Angryresister · 08/03/2019 23:26

Went to gathering in our small town ( not in Uk) good inspiring talks from all sorts of women representing eg carers, DV survivors, students, hotel workers, all basically saying our rights were being dismantled. I personally discussed with a liberal feminist friend how there are big problems re attitudes re prostitution being seen as work, and the takeover of women's space by TRAs....she only really sees the problem as capitalism. I think I am now seen as a bit beyond the pale...
