This must have been done as a joke? It made me laugh anyway

I think he was trying to be... helpful?
Pink news certainly took it seriously. Hmm

ChesterGreySideboard · 07/03/2019 12:45

Surely men only say stuff like this to wind women up.

legalseagull · 07/03/2019 12:53

Clearly he's never heard of TSS if he thinks we can wear the same tampon for 20 odd hours. My period is about 5-6 days long. 7 tampons is not going to cut it! Plus - flooding on day one and ouch on those last days when there's not enough for a tampon.

Doglikeme · 07/03/2019 13:03

Is this serious?
I'm not sure if I have something medically wrong but I soak through at least ten tampons a day as well as a packet of towels? Gosh I'm off to see a doctor.
I've had my period mansplained to me in real life too many times to think this is a joke sadly.

ChesterGreySideboard · 07/03/2019 13:13

Now he is a man who reads Pink News, so I’m guessing he hasn’t had a huge number of female partners.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 07/03/2019 13:20

If you haven't already, please click on the link in that article to the 'me and my vulva' mansplainer. It's brilliant.

EBearhug · 07/03/2019 14:13

He hasn't taken in to consideration that:

  • you shouldn't wear a single tampon for more than a few hours
  • his calculations are based on averages, but nearly every woman isn't average, it's only adding things up together that gives you average. If you've got heavy flow, it's possible to get through a tampon and pad in just an hour. My periods in my 40s follow a different pattern from in my teens.

And in any case, he could have just asked women. There is data on stuff like this - I gave a speech on period poverty at work a few months ago, and I found quite a few sites talking abou

EBearhug · 07/03/2019 14:15

...I found quite a few sites talking about costs of periods, average use of tampons, pads and so on. I wouldn't agree with all their calculations, but between them it should show something more realistic.

Bobbiepin · 07/03/2019 14:18

9 periods a year??

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/03/2019 14:53

I have no idea where 9 periods a year comes from. 12 or 13 is the obvious conclusion based on a regular-ish cycle of 28 to 30 days.

theworldistoosmall · 07/03/2019 15:01

I want to live in his world. 9 periods a year and max of 90 tampax. I wonder if he's one of those that think we can also hold it in Grin

AncientLights · 07/03/2019 15:32

Am I the only one who went 'yeurgh' at the phrase 'extra-juicy uterine lining'? Sounds like the sort of thing said by men who rifle through sanitary bins. Shock

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 07/03/2019 15:39

'Helpful' men like this need to shove a tampon where the sun don't shine.

VickyEadie · 07/03/2019 15:46

My cycle settled on 11 days of bleeding (8 of them exceptionally heavy) in every 23. This was the case from my mid-twenties until I got a Mirena when I was in my early 40s. Despite being told that would probably end my periods completely, all it did was reduce the flow a bit - they were still about 10 days in every 25.

I got through gazillions of tampons in my menstrual lifetime. The only upside for me was that my periods suddenly ended - with no warning at all - when I was 52. That was it, not even any spotting thereafter.

IdaBWells · 07/03/2019 15:47

Why are men so arrogant and obsessed with our bodily functions? I don't hear women pontificating about the various fluids men produce and considering themselves experts.

Moralitym1n1 · 07/03/2019 15:57

Don't use tampons, don't like them, can feel the string, it's an irritant, always worried about toxic shock, removing them often feels like pulling your inards out, inserting them is also uncomfortable, some of them leak - making them useless for swimming, don't want bleached fibres in my vagina natural ones are more expensive etc etc. But don't worry, he's Aman who's never had a period so he knows better.

Vixxxy · 09/03/2019 14:20

I find it so odd, the way seemingly loads of men reckon they know womens bodies better than women do Hmm

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/03/2019 14:26

This article should be amended - it’s promoting practices that can lead to toxic shock syndrome and as such could cause direct harm or even death.

Do NOT wear a tampon for more than 8 hr overnight and change more often then that in the day.

Really irresponsible article.

Mumminmum · 09/03/2019 17:47

He also thinks that an average period is 10-35 mil when in reality it is 35-45 mil on average, but that is on average, so some women bleed a lot more. The man is a misogynistic twat.

Userplusnumbers · 09/03/2019 17:54

Bowlofbabelfish

Did you actually read the article? It was about a man who made a post about how he'd worked out the maths, and basically what an idiot he was because it's ridiculous.

It in no way advises or supports using dangerous practices.

PreseaCombatir · 09/03/2019 18:43

I have quite a long cycle, 35 days.
That’s still 10 and a bit a year, so god knows where 9 has come from 🤷‍♀️
