A thread detailing reports and interviews as above on any of the main R4 news programmes eg Today, World at One, PM, Woman's Hour. Please add any instances of good/poor/misleading instances here. I'll start with John Humphrys' cluelessness when talking about intersex conditions (DSD) this morning on Today.

@MillytantForceit It will be interesting to see what Adam Rutherford says, as a couple of weeks ago he quickly deleted a tweet saying 'What nonsense is this?' when the differing shades of blue & pink picture was doing the rounds. He replied to himself saying that he didn't know enough about the specifics (I assume there had been a pile-on).

catsnoozing · 07/03/2019 08:56

The World Service has been running news items and news stories as well. I remember a report back at the end of last year on trans children & schools in S Africa. It was in the early hours of the morning.

Link to Today this morning below. The RM interview starts at 2 hr 33.

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0002zq4

So following RM's own argument, how many elite women cyclists are taller than her?

And Martha FFS - why did you ask Sharron about data after letting RM get away with quoting very selective data unchallenged?

MillytantForceit · 07/03/2019 16:22

The McKinnon interview was recorded and edited. Sharron was on live.

I am literally so sick of the beeb, I find the quality of their news piss-poor I’m afraid. Their online news site is appalling and not even current, they often have weak reports up for days. I rarely read them online as they are so disappointing. As for women’s “issues” I just don’t think they like women and they definitely don’t represent us as 50% of the population. We are the ignored majority-minority.

Sharron Davies MBE
@sharrond62
Professor Brewer a scientist of the highest caliber talking actual biology, facts.. & sport on Today BBC Radio 4 8.30am today.. #fairplay4females

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2019 08:02

Oh good! Prof Brewer phoned in on R5 Live. He was excellent.

I may have ranted to R 4 Today that they needed to get him on. Wonder who they will have for 'balance'?

nauticant · 08/03/2019 08:34

On now. Nick Robinson is doing the segment which is a promising start. They've even got a proper scientist on.

catsnoozing · 08/03/2019 08:34

Radio 4 today prog now.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2019 08:36

That was an utterly brilliant sign-off by Professor Brewer.

catsnoozing · 08/03/2019 08:42

Excellent. And John Brewer's summing up was spot on.

Crowdfundingforcake · 08/03/2019 08:42

Finally, someone prepared TPS speak the obvious truth.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2019 08:43

"Today is International Women's Day. We want a fair and level playing field for women across the world" Prof Brewer.

TWO Scientists BOTH stating the truth.

Crowdfundingforcake · 08/03/2019 08:43

To, not TPS. And obviously Sharon, Martina, Dame Kelly have been speaking the obvious truth, but these guys have the scientific clout behind them.

Crowdfundingforcake · 08/03/2019 08:44

Wonder what McKinnon will have to say about that?

Finally! Some actual science. Fabulous segment.

S1naidSucks · 08/03/2019 11:29

Considering how misogynistic most of the Male posters are in the DM, those comments are amazing. They usually enjoy ripping women apart.

nauticant · 24/03/2019 14:57

On now, The Listening Project looks at gender identity:

Sunday Omnibus: Bullying, Gender and Identity
The Listening Project

Fi Glover presents three conversations about finding ways to deal with bullying, trying to find yourself as a young gay man, and coping with being born the wrong gender.

This is the excerpt about transvestites "being born the wrong gender".

Load of cobblers. I'd not put money on Fi Glover being gender critical.

I've added this to an older thread because it comes under the heading of BBC coverage, although not strictly news. It's interesting in itself in that this story is included with many others.

"The Untold: Grace Dent presents a series documenting the untold dramas of 21st-century Britain."

The series looks really interesting, I'll probably listen to a few of the others. I half heard this one, broadcast last night, 6th Nov 19 at 11.30pm:

"Ellie and Ollie were once a lesbian couple. Then Ollie began the process of transitioning from female to male. Grace Dent follows the story, as the couple negotiate the change."

Each talk to Grace, telling the story over the months of last year and this year. As I said, I didn't catch it all, but you get a sense of the feelings of each of them.

They're all available on podcast.
