Yet more people trying to make money out of desperate women

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 06/03/2019 03:17

A union organiser says prostitutes deserve the same rights and protections as other workers

It would be fantastic if a union could protect women from rape, std and trafficking.

I hope the union would ensure that all women get at least minimum wage, access to pensions and adequate working conditions.

I'd be disappointed if they only thing a union achieved was to stop men from being prosecuted for buying women.

this. what do we think is their aim here?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2019 07:26

So what do they want? Decrim? Have they thought this through from a workers rights perspective?

EverardDigby · 06/03/2019 07:44

Hopefully they'll bring the "job" inside other health and safety regulations, e.g. wearing gloves and masks when dealing with bodily fluids.

Quite Hmm

Lemoncakestrudel · 06/03/2019 07:51

Personal protective equipment, protection from violence, safe working environment, pay, holiday and pension rights, maternity leave, counselling.

Or just giving the guys a pat on the back for continuing to give these women a form of ‘employment’? Angry

Yep no different from any other job. Also easily fitted around the school day. Advertised in Jobcentres and sanctions for not applying Excellent new for government stats on unemployment Bravo

It's hit the BBC as well

I am Shock

The sex workers who fought for the creation of the branch now hope to shape future prostitution legislation.

They say they want to take the sex out of sex work and be protected as workers

Not quite sure how that will work ...

The union, and the sex workers it represents, believe that Scotland has harmful laws on brothel-keeping which isolate sex workers and leave them without protection.

The GMB's adult entertainment branch is open to anyone in the adult entertainment industry, including strippers, burlesque and go-go dancers, video cam workers, people who make pornography - any form of sexual labour.

Where have I heard Rhea Wolfson's (who set this up) name before?

Popchyk · 06/03/2019 16:29

So also open to human traffickers, pimps, and punters. Because they are also part of this "work".

Rhea Wolfson was a Labour National Executive Committee member last year, backed by Momentum. Widely held to be given the position at a young age purely because she was Jewish, in order to help Corbyn with his anti-Semitism image. How's that going for you, Jeremy?

Was part of the early cabal pushing the "transwomen are women, no debate" stuff for All Women Shortlists in Labour.

She is no friend to women.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/03/2019 16:30

jfc the pictures illustrating that article

attractive young women in skimpy clothing

Galvantula · 06/03/2019 20:56

Fucks sake I was literally about to join them, as they're meant to be better than our current union. somewhat put off now.

Are all unions at this shit? :(

LassOfFyvie · 06/03/2019 21:16

Even if I were prepared to give this the time of day as a credible position (which I'm not ) are they so stupid they don't realise prostitutes are self-employed? The German brothels hire rooms to women- they are not treated as employees.

In the days before The Guardian lost the plot they had an article about lap dancing clubs. The women paid to be in the club and their earnings were tips, not a wage.

MagicMix · 06/03/2019 21:30

Boo. Prostitution is at its very core violence, violation and exploitation. There is no way to sanitise it. There is no way for a union to protect a prostituted woman from a john who already sees her as an object to stick his dick into.

How will this union make sure laws on sexual harassment in the workplace are enforced when submitting to sexual violation is the very nature of the 'work'?
