cwg1 · 04/03/2019 15:29

For IWD, over on webchats! Questions by lunchtime Wednesday, selection to be sent to Penny M and she will send written answers to be posted on Friday.

I'm rubbish at thinking of things, but get over there, sisters!

OP posts:
EweSurname · 04/03/2019 15:31

Oh wow! Will be interesting to see what she chooses to answer

HollowTalk · 04/03/2019 15:37

I was very moved by what she said about her own experiences of period poverty on Woman's Hour. I was annoyed by the lack of funding, but don't think that was something she favoured.

OvaHere · 04/03/2019 15:48

We need some of our most eloquent members on this.

MNHQ have stated they don't want one topic to overwhelm (can't imagine what topic they had in mind!)

Maybe we could use this thread to hash out what is important to ask.

MsMcWoodle · 04/03/2019 15:54

The topic has a lot of aspects to it. I hope we're not going to be made to waste this opportunity.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 04/03/2019 15:57

I'd be inclined to ask her a safeguarding children question. Something about why has the government failed to stop trans organisations from undermining the safeguarding of children? In particular telling teachers to keep children's disclosures secret from anyone, telling schools to enable a child's transition and not tell parents and promoting the use of hormone blockers in children, including pre pubertal children?

All can be evidenced with screen shots - but maybe a bit convoluted?

Floomph · 04/03/2019 15:58

I hope we're not going to be made to waste this opportunity

Feel free to call me cynical but I'd have thought there will only be the most cursory answers to any trans questions.

PencilsInSpace · 04/03/2019 16:00

Fuuuuck!!!

We need one on ROGD. Mordaunt announced an 'urgent' government inquiry into this ... almost 6 months ago now and I haven't heard anything else about it. In light of the Tavistock shitshow, I'd say this is even more urgent than it was back then.

Forgotthebins · 04/03/2019 16:00

It's reasonable that one topic shouldn't overwhelm - she's over a big brief. That said, if someone is going to ask a question about the trans/womens rights question it might be helpful if they can link it to any issues in her constituency - Portsmouth North - I suspect that would make her think about it differently than if it's just abstract "ranty feminists saying not nice things".

Popchyk · 04/03/2019 16:05

I think that, despite the format of it (not a live webchat, preselected questions, two days to give written answers), this demonstrates quite the departure from Transwomen Are Women, No Debate.

James Kirkup said in his Mail on Sunday article that he'd heard that Mordaunt had cooled on self-ID.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6765249/JAMES-KIRKUP-Britain-FINALLY-coming-senses-transgender-madness.html

"Meanwhile, in the political sphere, the word in Whitehall is that Penny Mordaunt, the Equalities Minister, is starting to have doubts about changing the law to allow people to self-identify their sex.

Responses to a Government consultation on those reforms showed opposition from women in every part of Britain, other than a few very small clusters in London and a few university towns. Tories who once saw the trans agenda as a way to modernise and reach out to young voters now realise things are more complicated than that".

RepealTheGRA · 04/03/2019 16:05

I think she needs to answer the resisters questions on single sex spaces for IWD. And that’s just for starters!

Popchyk · 04/03/2019 16:07

I'd really love her to give a definition of women.

But of course that would never happen.

OvaHere · 04/03/2019 16:08

I'd really love her to give a definition of women.

Ha! Not a chance.

OvaHere · 04/03/2019 16:13

We could have a chance here to get some useful information so probably best to be constructive.

Current thinking around GRA - has she shifted at all from her starting point of TWAW?

ROGD - what is happening with this urgent enquiry? Thoughts on the recent report and resignations from the Tavistock?

Sport - Does she support the stance of the many elite British athletes speaking out?

Safeguarding - Does she recognise the loopholes and disregard for safeguarding best practice when trans issues are involved?

Daughterofmabel · 04/03/2019 16:13

Will she ensure that
guidance is published on the single-sex exceptions in the Equality Act.

GCAcademic · 04/03/2019 16:20

Will she ensure that guidance is published on the single-sex exceptions in the Equality Act.

This is really important to ask. The government needs to ensure that women’s rights are not only upheld, but restored to where they were pre-2004, when they were removed from us by stealth.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 04/03/2019 16:27

I'm looking at a letter from her in response to questions about the GRA consultation where she states that the government has recognised the complexity of the issues and they they will not remove the exemptions for sex segregated spaces. It reads as if she does recognise the complexities (to some level). It's in marked contrast to Damien Hinds (Education) who ignores all safeguarding questions and drones on about how wonderfully inclusive mixed sex toilets are for children and teenagers Angry
Surprisingly the trans lobby seems to have a tighter grip on the DfE - which would explain why trans lobby groups are all over schools.

GCAcademic · 04/03/2019 16:37

Not removing the single sex exemptions is not enough. They need to be actively enforced in specific circumstances where women are vulnerable. Too many providers are failing, or refusing, to invoke them.

Datun · 04/03/2019 16:52

I'm torn between asking her a policy question, like how to ensure that the exemptions are not only well known, but easily enforced without punishment or pushback - and NOT on a case by case basis, which makes them useless.

And an explicit question about what I can do with the obvious paedophile smirking at me getting my toddler undressed at toddler swim whilst rubbing his thighs with moisturiser. Since as a transwoman he is breaking no laws and not even any rules.

I genuinely want to know if people like Morduant understand the power dynamic between men and women. Why it's there, and how it is enforced. Does she even understand the 98% / 2% statistic??

Lumene · 04/03/2019 16:56

Penny Mordaunt promised to do a mumsnet webchat about the GRA reform proposals specifically. Why didn’t this happen?

PencilsInSpace · 04/03/2019 19:33

Ask an explicit question please Datun. Very few people can frame that sort of question in a way that cuts through everything yet remains completely civil. You can!

RedToothBrush · 04/03/2019 19:38

Go for explicit and tack on invite to MN at the end to be cheeky!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/03/2019 19:41

I'd really love her to give a definition of women

I actually think this would be a good question for IWD, or something along the lines of why IWD exists.

TransposersArePosers · 08/03/2019 19:27

I see that the pinned thread has gone from FWR, answers were to be posted today. Have I missed them?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/03/2019 19:30

You haven't missed them. Technically they've got until midnight to post them though I suspect they might quietly not appear

Ereshkigal · 08/03/2019 19:34

They said because she was reading them all that she would post her answers to a section of them on Monday now as it was too much to consider before Friday.
